Title: Honesty
A/N: This story is set right after Survival. If you haven't seen Survival, you won't really "get" a lot of it.
The Doctor limped into the library and leaned against the wall, wincing. Ace budged over on the sofa, silently offering him the spot next to her. When he didn't move to take it, she patted the space. "Come on, then."
The Doctor shook his head. "I think I'd better not sit for a while yet."
"Oh." Ace nodded in understanding. "Bruised your dignity in the motorbike crash, did you?"
"Not exactly." At Ace's enquiring look, the Doctor sighed. "Ace, are you sure you want to know the truth?"
"You promised to be more honest with me," Ace pointed out.
"If I tell you, you may regret making me promise," the Doctor warned.
"I want to know," Ace insisted.
"Very well." The Doctor shifted his position, winced again, and resumed speaking. "My, ahem, injuries are the results of a runin with the Master."
"What exactly did he do? Scratch you? Seeing that he was kind of a cat person at the time."
"Yes. Well." The Doctor cleared his throat; Ace realised she could not recall him ever seeming so embarrassed. "Do you know what a cat's penis looks like?"
"Sure. It's long and spikey and ... oh." Ace stared at the Doctor. "Oh!"
"Exactly."
Ace immediately vowed to never again pressure the Doctor to be completely honest. Some things, she was definitely happier not knowing!
