All was quiet in the Shinigami world, the same way it had been for centuries. The only sounds were the clicking of dice as two Death gods played a game.
"Damm," the one cursed as he lost another roll. "You always seem to beat me, Ryuk. You have the best luck."
Ryuk smiled as he scooped the dice back up. "In dice, sure," he said. "But what if we played another game?"
"Another game?" the other Shinigami said, interest adding a light to his dead eyes. "What kind of game?"
"A game," Ryuk said, rolling the dice around in his cup, "That involves humans."
"Humans?" the other scoffed. "What fun could be had with humans?"
"You remember when I dropped that Death Note into the human world a few years back?" The Death god nodded. "And the human who picked it up, how he got into a fight with that detective?"
"It was interesting for a while," the other agreed.
"Well, I always thought that that battle ended too quickly," Ryuk said, continuing to roll his dice around. "If they fought again, who do you think would win?"
"Who I'd think would win?" the Shinigami asked, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Well, I'd have to go with the detective. The only reason he was killed was because the other one had two Death gods on his side."
"Would you wager on that?" Ryuk asked.
The other stared at him a moment before smiling. "Sure, I'll wager on it."
"Good," Ryuk said. "Let's see who will come out on top this time." He stopped rolling his dice, turning the cup over onto to the ground. When he checked the dots, the other Shinigami cursed.
"Damm. Snake eyes again."
