There are three Hitomi fics on this site at the moment. I need to fix that.
Summary: When you're sixteen, you listen to the orders. When you're twenty-six, you hear what they mean. Hitomi centric. Based on a combination between the manga and episode 10 of the anime.
Disclaimer: Kamijyo-sensei still owns most of the things that Wilder loves. Wilder does not own Code:Breaker either.
What They Mean
Hitomi is sixteen years old. He is a prodigy with a strong sense of justice and a drive to protect.
Now, he is a Code:Breaker.
He doesn't know what that means, exactly. He knows that he has to fight now, he knows what his power is meant to do. He knows that he is no longer a person, merely an instrument of destruction.
And he's okay with that, because it means he can defend what he loves.
Code:05 was his friend. Well, maybe Haruya didn't think so. Most of the Code:Breakers don't think like that. As Hitomi removes Haruya's bloody watch, he lets a few tears fall. So what if he's a killer? Even murderers cry.
Heike doesn't care. He says he's sorry, but Hitomi knows better. He's gotten to know a little bit about Code:02 in the past four years, and he doesn't think that Heike has ever cared about anything but Eden's wishes.
Hitomi sits at his familiar riverbank, clutching Haruya's watch like a lifeline, and tries to remember why he hasn't run yet.
It's been ten years. He's watched so many Code:Breakers die. He's not going to let that happen again, not as long as he holds this title, Code:01. Nothing is worth this. He doesn't care anymore what Eden wants, now that he's watched his friends slaughtered for their cause without a scrap of recognition.
And then he learns about Code:End.
He can't tell Rei and the others.
All he can do is try to reshape the world so that they can live as long as their fates allow.
It's been three years since he was labeled a fugitive, and Hitomi hasn't been Lost in over six months. He knows it's close, now. He only hopes that it will be Rei who comes to finish him off. He needs to talk to Rei again before he goes.
He needs Rei to understand that the Code:Breakers are more human than Eden is.
End
That was really short and I don't even like it that much, but Hitomi, love, you have another fic now.
