KnucklesXRouge A Long Nights' Peace
It was unusual for her to be staring up at the sky, but she had nothing better to do. A jewel thief like herself should have had all the beautiful chaos emeralds there are by now, but it always seemed that someone else would get to them first. If it wasn't Sonic who got to them, or Tails that got to them, it was always Knuckles. Knuckles is someone who hunts for jewels. He isn't one to steal them. Rouge would often try and steal the biggest emerald of them all: the Master Emerald. Unlike villains and heroes who needed it for power, she just wanted it because it was really big and really pretty. She could never get her hands on it because Knuckles was always guarding it. 'Knuckles….' She thought. She never really saw anyone anymore. Unlike Shadow, she liked getting out to see everyone every once in a while. She stood up. She decided to go see Knuckles. She thought it would be fun to bother him for a while.
He stared up at the sky. The sky didn't have many clouds in them, but it seemed that even though it wasn't anywhere near Valentines Day, every single cloud, no matter the size, was shaped like a heart. He smiled to himself. He didn't know why, but today was going to be a good, peaceful day. Suddenly the silence was broken. "Hey Knuckles!" it was none other than Sonic the hedgehog. He and Knuckles were somewhat friends, but Sonic mostly came by to annoy him. "What do you want?" Knuckles said tiredly. He was having a tranquil lazy day that had been broken by the hyperactive speedster. He didn't look down from where he laid in front of the Master Emerald. "You should get out more!" said Sonic. "I'm already out." said Knuckles. "Yeah, outside! But what I meant was that you never come see us anymore!" said Sonic. Knuckles, as always, was way too busy watching over the Master Emerald. Most people would have thought of it as something boring, lonely, and a job not worth doing with no pay, but Knuckles liked his job. He enjoyed the silence he could get each day. Plus, if he wasn't there to watch the emerald, someone would steal it, most likely Rouge. 'She hasn't come around lately….' Knuckles thought. "Go away hedgehog, I'm not in the mood." Said Knuckles who closed his eyes and tried to make any little sound around him disappear. He failed. "Come on! At least fight with me!" said Sonic. "You're bored again aren't you?" said Knuckles who kept his eyes closed. "Well, Eggman hasn't tried anything lately, Tails is working on something, Amy…. Well there's not much to say about her…. Cream is playing with Cheese somewhere…. and Shadow is nowhere to be found…." Said Sonic. "I'm busy." Said Knuckles. "Yeah, yeah, with your boring job. Fine then. Send me away. I don't care." Said Sonic who crossed his arms. "Go away then." said Knuckles. "Hey!" said Sonic. "You said you didn't care." Said Knuckles. He yawned. "Hmph." Said Sonic who walked away. When Sonic was gone, Knuckles smiled at the silence. He fell asleep.
When Rouge found where Knuckles' island was, she landed silently beside him. She noticed Knuckles was asleep. The sun was setting, and it wasn't too cold or too hot outside. It felt like good sleeping weather. She couldn't blame him for drifting off. She looked around to see if anyone was there. It was very quiet. She quietly laid down with her head on his chest, and fell asleep. It was so early in the morning that it was still dark outside when Knuckles woke up. He noticed Rouge. 'Why is she here? Laying on me? I thought bats slept in the daytime…. I guess I was wrong.' Knuckles thought. He watched her sleep for a few minutes. He didn't want to wake her up. He laid back down and wrapped his arms around her, and they slept peacefully. 'I wouldn't mind doing that every day….' Knuckles thought when he woke up.
