GOTTA GO MY OWN WAY

"Troy, we need to talk," Gabriella Montez told her boyfriend Troy Bolton, quietly.

Troy looked at her with a puzzled look on his face. He was surprised to see her face full of hurt. "Gabi, what's wrong?" he asked.

"Troy, I've seen you with Sharpay," Gabriella sighed. "It seems like you really like her."

"I don't," Troy protested. "I like you, Gabriella."

"Then, why are you hanging around with Sharpay all the time?" Gabriella asked. "You don't seem to have any time for me."

"Look, Gabi, I don't hang around Sharpay all the time, at least I don't want to," Troy said. "But, teaching everyone who requests to play golf is my job."

"Don't you have to teach the kids who doesn't know how to play golf?" Gabriella asked.

"Yeah," Troy answered.

"Then, why are you teaching Sharpay, Troy?" Gabriella asked, frustrated. "She knows how to play golf. She's really good at it, too."

"She's not good," Troy said. "She's awful."

Gabriella sighed and forced Troy to turn around and look at the golf course. Troy watched as Sharpay played golf. She was good.

"Look, Gabi, I didn't know," Troy said.

"Troy, you were too blind," Gabriella said. "You were blinded by the money and by the basketball scholarship and your future."

"Look, Gabi –" Troy began.

"Go for your future, Troy," Gabriella said, quietly as she took Troy's hand in hers. "Go get that scholarship."

"Gabriella, please –" Troy began again.

"I have to say what's on my mind, Troy," Gabriella interrupted. "Something about us doesn't seem right, Troy. Our lives keep getting in the way. I have to do what's best for me. You'll be okay, Troy. I just…I gotta go my own way."

"But, Gabriella, please," Troy said, tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry, Troy," Gabriella whispered. "I gotta go my own way."

Gabriella let go off Troy's hand. She started to walk away. Troy stood frozen for a second and then he ran after her. He grabbed her hand, making her stop and turn.

"Gabriella, please listen to me," Troy said, desperately, trying to get Gabriella to stay. "What about us, Gabi? What about everything we've been through together?"

"What about trust?" Gabriella asked, her eyes swimming in tears. "I trusted you Troy, but, you went to Sharpay and forgot about me."

"I didn't forget about you," Troy said at once.

"Troy, please try to understand," Gabriella said. She took his hand in hers.

"I'm trying to understand," Troy replied as he felt something heavy fall into his hand.

"I gotta go my own way," Gabriella whispered before she turned and ran to her mother's car.

Troy glanced down at his hand and saw the necklace that he had given her. The pendant was in the shape of a 'T' and the 'T' stood for Troy.

Troy ran after her and grabbed her hand just before she jumped into the car. Gabriella turned to face Troy slowly. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked into the pair of blue eyes. She saw the pair of eyes that she could drown in was also filled with tears. Troy cupped Gabriella's face in his hands and wiped away her tears with his thumb.

"I love you," Troy whispered.

That's when he did. He did not ask her for her permission. He did not waste a single minute. Nor did he wait a single second. He bent down and kissed Gabriella on the lips.

Gabriella responded by dropping her bag and wrapping her hands around Troy's neck.

Ms. Montez drove away leaving Gabriella wrapped up in Troy's arms. She knew that her daughter would want to stay at the country club.

"I love you, too, Troy," Gabriella whispered as they pulled apart for air.

"It would mean a lot to me if you wore this, Gabriella," Troy said, holding up the necklace.

"It would be my honour," Gabriella smiled.

Troy put the necklace around her neck and kissed her again. It felt really good to have her lips against his.
