Drabble. No, it's not anywhere near October. Have a little imagination.

It is Halloween, All Hallow's Eve, Festival of the Dead, and they have come down to the living world to visit Isshin and his family. Kurosaki Ichigo is still continuing his secondary education despite the fact that he has more life (or death) experience than most people do in a life time. Isshin and Shunsui give each other knowing looks and Jyuushirou laughs behind his hand when the Kurosaki eldest son complains about the mundainity of life, knowing that they had been the same, back at the Acadamy. They have enough years, now, to know that it is the mudanities that people fight and die for.

The night is full of young and old and very-old moments, punctuated by the ringing of the doorbell as little boys and girls dressed up in outlandish costumes come looking for praise and candy. None are dressed like Hollows, despite the evening's namesake. When Jyuushirou finally tears himself away from the children and the food (not before exchanging a few quiet commends on Yuzu's cooking, passed on from her mother, not without a little unintentional envy) and Shunsui from the booze and his old friend, they go out walking.

It is cool for fall, and Jyuushirou is wearing Shunsui's haori over his shoulders for warmth. Shunsui's arm is similarly leant for support and comfort as they enjoy the spirit of the night air. They know that they may not be back here next year, but then again, they might.

They hand out candy to anyone who sees them and Ukitake eats the rest, feeding Kyouraku a few chocolates when they sit down on a bench to rest and watch the children run by.
