Prologue

Ida Coulson watched the sky above her twinkle like a million fireflies attempting to find their mates.

Love.

She stared in wonder. Could insects so tiny feel love? To many, humans were also simply insects living on a planet that was a small part of an enormous cluster of universes. If we were insects, couldn't something smaller feel love too?

And wasn't that word supposed to hold the answer to all problems? That's what her mother told her as a child. Was all that her mom told her bullshit? Could something good really rein over all that is evil?

Ida's eyebrows creased together as tears threatened to spill. Beneath her was New York – a city full of innocent lives that were unaware of the disaster that was about to take place.
