Downfall

He grabbed his bag, and glanced around the room one final time. He took a second glance at the picture on his bedside table, reaching out and unzipping his bag, before placing the picture in and doing the bag up again. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath, picked the heavy bag up with ease, and waked out of the room.

She slammed the door of her car shut, locking it with a beep from her keys, before turning and walking in the opposite direction. Her footsteps made no sound as she walked briskly along the boardwalk, a cigarette in one hand and a large holdall in the other. Looking at her watch, she quickly sat down on a nearby bench, crossing her legs and taking a long drag on her cigarette, staring out at the seemingly monotonous ocean. She shivered slightly as the air brushed past her bare shoulders, the sun had gone down and the temperature was dropping. Truth be told, she had no idea what was going on, but she wasn't one to question.

"Just come with me, please…" She gazed into his eyes and found it hard to resist the slight smile that played on his lips and the way his hand managed to find hers without him even looking. She closed her eyes for a couple of seconds, before she felt him squeeze her hand encouragingly. He tilted her chin up with his other hand, before she found the courage in her to reply.

"Okay." And with that, he took her in his arms and spun her around, his face lighting up in a smile, the biggest she had ever seen.

Hearing footsteps down the pier, she looked up and her face broke into a smile as his face glimmered in the moonlight, quickly stubbing out her cigarette. She stood up, her hands on her hips.

"So…" She said quietly, fighting herself to restrain the cheeky grin that threatened to break out on her lips. However, she found herself unable to do so as he dropped his bag next to hers and wrapped his arms around her.

"So…" He replied, smiling as her face lit up, taking one hand and cupping her face, gently guiding her lips to his. "You've been smoking?" She looked down, before looking back up and biting her lip, before seeing his reaction.

"Can I bum a cigarette?"

She raised an eyebrow, as her smile widened, reaching into her purse and pulling out a packet of Luckies, taking one for herself and handing one to him. She lit her own, before passing him his. Taking his in his mouth, she smiled as she exhaled and he moved a little closer, placing a hand on her hip and lighting his cigarette from hers. Smiling he took a step back, and took a long pull, glad to have something to focus on after being pulled away from her alluring blue stare. Standing back, he smiled as he took a few puffs on the cigarette before stubbing it out and returning his attention to the girl that stood in front of him in a similar position. She turned suddenly, and sat down on the bench, patting the space next to her as he followed. He sat down, and she immediately moved closer, taking his hand in his and wrapping an arm around his neck.

"What's it like in Boston?" She whispered into his ear, as he smiled and stared into her eyes, rubbing her hand and placing an arm around her waist.

"I don't know." He replied truthfully, drawing her nearer as he felt the air grow slightly colder. "Want to find out?"
