In this chapter: Thane relives a memory of reliving a memory, and spends the Reaper war stuck in a feedback loop. Obviously, this is all non-canon but as in-character as I could possibly get it. Thanks for reading, and please do review.

Thane Krios lay on the desk in the Life Support room, because Commander Shepard was too cheap to give him a bed. It had been the same for most of his comrades, really. Grunt would curl into a ball and sleep on the floor, Morinth was often spread over her couch, Garrus cradled the Thanix cannons, and Jacob slept under his desk which always stank of spent casings and oil. Granted, Shepard was jealous of Jacob because he'd slept with Miranda, so there was probably some bias.

But tonight, Thane couldn't sleep. He said his prayers to his gods as usual, dressed into his sleeping garments (which were all leather) and closed his eyes. Then he recalled a memory of the day he met his first wife; sunset eyes, defiant in the scope. Then he thought about the time he and Commander Shepard went to Afterlife and verbally abused Aria T'Loak to the brink of tears. Then he thought about the first time he talked to the Commander about his perfect recall. And then he recalled his perfect recall. And then he recalled that, and eventually his mind got stuck on this one topic. He began to run around the room in a frightened panic, constantly recalling the time he reminisced about the time he remembered something that he recalled.

In the hours that followed this, Commander Shepard was called back to trial on Earth for the destruction of the Aratoht relay. Thane Krios, Master Assassin, was to spend the entirety of the Reaper War stuck in a loop of remembrance, until he woke up to kick Kai Leng's ass six ways across the Citadel.

The drell dodged his attacks, mustering enough strength to punch him with full biotic force across the lobby and into a potted plant. The Cerberus assassin rushed the alien, leaping into the air then slashing desperately downwards. His sharp blade cut through Thane's chest, piercing his middle lung. The Kepral's Syndrome within him reacted badly, rendering him unable to move onwards. He collapsed to the floor, as the Commander, Garrus and Liara chased after Kai Leng.

As he lay in the Huerta Memorial, Thane thought about the time he thought about all those other times... and so it began and ended for Thane Krios.
