There's a pain goes on and on

Will smiled falsely and looked down at his food. As soon as he did however, he felt like throwing up.

How can I eat this when I have seen what I saw? All of those children without parents any more and being forced into slavery if they want to eat. If they want to survive even!

'Are you ok, Will?' Halt asked, watching his adopted son carefully.

'Yes,' Will replied shortly and went back to pushing his food around his plate.

'Do you want some coffee?' Halt asked, getting up to go and make it already. Asking was just a habit.

Can I? Do I dare? They didn't even have enough for food, how could they have ever had coffee?

'Yes,' Will said softly and looked outside of the window. The snow fell delicately on the ground and gave a smooth finish upon the floor. It gave a graceful touch to the cold and chilly outside.

They never had any clothes that protected them from this cold. How did they ever manage to survive in this weather? The frost fell upon their limbs and froze their fingers to the point of no return. Many died from such a thing.

'Will, are you sure that you are fine?' Halt asked worried as he placed his hand on the younger man's shoulder. Will was unable to give a lie straight to Halt's face so he chose to just nod.

'Here's your coffee,' Halt muttered and nudged the cup so that it was closer to Will. After he had done this he sat down opposite him.

'Are you sure that you don't want to talk to me about your mission? Not as ranger to ranger, but as father to son?' Halt suggested gently.

Will looked up at him paranoid. He couldn't do this, how was he meant to do it when Crowley came?

But the children had never know the kindness to talk to. A person who could understand and offer comfort. Did he really deserve the things that the hadn't had? Most of them had needed it more, and should have been given the opportunity.

'I don't know,' Will said and looked away again. Halt frowned. Will had never met his eyes for longer than five seconds the whole night, and normally he had no problem holding them.

'What happened on your last mission?' he prodded.

'I can't. Not now, not ever,' he cried and left the place suddenly to go and sit in silence at his cabin.
