Crystal Clear.
The chill of the December winds shook him to his very core, leaving him shivering for warmth and pulling his crimson scarf tighter round his neck, like a boa constrictor tightening its chokehold. The trees littering the streets were sparse scrub, reaching out with old, worn fingers for any warmth that they could successfully find. Who knows – they could have even been desperate enough to reach out and sap his own life-force.
He was no stranger to death.
The ground covered in a dead shell of leaves below him crunched slightly as heavy footfalls pounded them into submission and the lanky, well-dressed man (whose face was obscured by a hood attached to a deep blood-trimmed cloak) continued on his path towards temporary sanctuary and freedom; then he would have redo the misery and boredom all over again. His job was getting old very quickly. A street lamp flickered vaguely as the sun sent out the last of its weak arms of light before succumbing to the end of the earth below and there were only one or two people scattered around – nobody really worth his concern. After all, SHE was waiting patiently for her knight in red, balisong flashing as he slayed every dragon and demon who attempted to steal her away from him.
There were a lot of those.
Turning the corner, he carried on walking calmly to the white door looming up in front of him like a welcoming ghost, the barest hint of excitement betrayed only by the increase of speed in his step. The oncoming dark served to cloak his advances and a small smile crawled onto his face as he extended one arm and touched the wood under his gloved knuckles with a firm rapping knock. The light in the hallway immediately clicked on through the frosted front windows, designed to give her more privacy. Her curved figure appeared and the man peering in took a moment to admire her audacity and womanly assets before hearing shuffling and the clinking of keys held in excited hands. He waited for a few more seconds as the right key finally found its place in the home of the rounded lock and turned with sharp finality.
The door swung open and her smiling face framed by raven hair and rosy cheeks told him one thing.
"I'm here."
"I know."
Merry Christmas guys! Hopefully, I should get a few new chapters of other stories up before next year...but I doubt it. XD Please enjoy this little one-shot and remember to R&R!
