The End

by Triky

Although I know that you will grieve,
Dearest Samwise, my friend,
I know in your heart you will believe,
That our parting is not the end.

As you clasp my hand and my soul,
Upon the grey quayside,
I know that you can stay one and whole,
Though a piece of your heart has died.

Your calloused hand, so dear in mine,
Gave me strength when mine was lost,
Even now as our arms fiercely entwine,
It is still you who bears the cost.

At last the fearful moment is here,
The moment when I must depart,
How can I leave you dearest of dear?
When my soul is tearing apart!

Cruellest of all, is that you don't know,
You thought I had survived,
But It claimed me and you shouted "No!"
That was the moment I died.

Naught was left, but a half-life of pain,
That even your love could not mend,
So I must leave and you must remain,
But I vow, Sam – it is not the end.
