Every day was the same, fighting a constant battle against the mirror.
It never changed for the better, if anything it got worse. She'd wake up every morning, half-heartedly sigh, force herself to get out of bed and her first run would be to the bathroom, onto the scales. Her heart would rise to her mouth as she stepped upon them, waiting for the outcome of her 24/7 diet. Most of the time the numbers stayed the same, and to her horror, they sometimes went up. It was only by a touch, but all the same, she ran back to her bedroom and cried, making obsessive dieting plans to try and get the numbers down again.
At first, it had just been a sort of playground game to her, just to see if she could lose some weight. She didn't realise that losing your mind came with the bargain too. She was ruining her body, ruining her life and ruining the lives of those around her. She'd keep a smile on her face, and most of the time it was genuine, but there was always that nagging voice in the back of her head telling her "You're fat."
But she was going to learn to ignore that voice and make it shut up once and for all, because she was fed up being a victim. She hated the pitied looks that people threw her on the street, and she'd came to despise the jealousy in normal-weight people's eyes when they saw her skinny frame. She was going to start eating, get to a healthy weight and move the fuck on with her life.
But before she took that vow, she still had to lose some of the excess fat on her body.
Five more pounds couldn't hurt anyone. Right?
