Words that can't be spoken

A/N: A little one shot between Sally Jackson and Poseidon, the day he left Sally. I need to practice writing (I've been lazy) so here we go.

The winds of the sea roared, as the woman with a bundle in her arms and a man with a trident in his hand walked along the edge of the sea, the salty grains of sand touching their feet and the sea air filling their lungs. The grey of the sky cast clouds over the sea, as if it knew that its master would soon return to the sea, leaving his heart on the earth.

He looked at the bundle of blankets his beloved was holding. A small fist was waving around, as if protesting to his father's wishes. Poseidon sighed. He didn't want to leave Sally; she is a queen among mortals. Beautiful, intelligent, courageous, and everything Amphitrite wasn't. How he wished he could leave Amphitrite for Sally, to stay with her forever and ever. She looked at him, her eyes flooded with salty tears, which he quickly swept away with his hand. He ran his finger along her jaw line, wanting to kiss her one last time.

"I love you." she whispered, trying to smile for him. She knew he didn't want to leave her. She knew he wanted to raise Percy with her. But he had to leave, his duties as the sea god was demanding his departure. How unfair, the world was. Sally may be younger then Poseidon was, eons and eons younger, but she knew that these are the sacrifices a god must make if he wants to make things right.
"As to you," he responded, his eyes searching hers. He caressed her cheek lightly "Sally, I don't want to do this."

"I know." She said quietly, as she felt Percy stir, getting agitated. She already knew he'd be diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, but he would be special. He had the power of a god, and the love of a mortal. He'd be special. Just like Sally was to Poseidon. "But, it's okay. I'll be okay."

Poseidon looked down at his son, and slowly took the bundle from Sally's arms and held it close. "Shh...Percy..." he murmured, quietly. "You will be a great demigod. A fine son. And a protector of your mother." He looked at Sally as he said this last line. "I'll be back one day."

"One day." Sally repeated. She looked at Poseidon, a tear streaming down her face "One day."

"Protect your mother, Percy," he said quietly, speaking to his son. "And stay with her. Do what I couldn't do for her. Love her with all your heart, as I do."

He looked at Sally, and kissed Percy's forehead softly, before handing him back to his mother and lightly kissed her one last time. "I love you, Sally. Always". He held her close quietly, pressing their son in between. He placed his hand on the back of her neck and his other arm around her waist, never wanting to let her go.

"I know. "She murmured. "I love you too, forever."
She then separated from him and pushed him lightly towards the sea. "Go" she said quietly, watching him. "Before I go with you"
Poseidon watched Sally cry for one moment, before smiling at the sight of his son. He closed his eyes and felt the sea bring him home. But it wasn't home. Sally wasn't with him. He felt the sea wrap him in his embrace before pulling it under, back to his kingdom, where the words he wants to say can't be spoken anymore.

Sally watched as Poseidon left her, back into the sea. She tried not to cry, and held Percy close. She cried a little and kissed his forehead softly. "Daddy's going to be gone for awhile...okay?" she said quietly, knowing Percy couldn't respond. Surprisingly, Percy's fist wrapped around her finger, and she smiled softly. Everything could be okay, if Percy would be there.
