Queen Minnie had no idea that the strength to do such things was in her, but once her King had gone to find the Keyblade Wielder, and she was left alone, she had no choice but to defend.
When he had left, and she had found the note, tears had sprung to her eyes. She read the note over and over, the words blurring as though trying to escape the page and relieve the world of its dark fate. But eventually, the shock wore off, and the words sunk in, and she knew what she had to do.
When the Heartless had infiltrated the castle, she had drawn her weapon. It was before Sora had arrived, and she was alone, but she knew that her only chance was to fight. And so she did. After locking the Cornerstone of Light behind an impenetrable magic field, she swept through the rooms and slashed at her enemies, ignoring the feeling of their claws piercing her skin. She took the pain in her stride, in the hopes that she would see him again.
When the Heartless had dissipated, at least for the time being, she had lowered her weapon, and tended to her wounds. She couldn't bear to let anyone else in the castle see what they had done to her, so she retired to her room, where she had first found her King's note, and proceeded ahead with her task. She staunched the flow of blood, and wrapped the gashes, and drank a Potion to aid the healing process, and though the wounds stung, and occasionally oozed blood, she couldn't surrender, not if she wanted to survive for him.
She had wept, and fought, and bled, and it was so difficult, and so draining, and so painful. But, she had endured it all for her King.
And she knew, deep down in her heart, that however difficult it was…
She would endure it all again, just to keep him safe.
