AN: Well, the holidays have just started for me, and because I just graduated, I get two extra weeks! However, I got bored two days in and started taking prompt requests. This one is from my friend Unicorn, who requested a Doctor Who/Hunger Games Crossover with "Katniss as a companion – XD". This has probably been done before, but I still hope it doesn't disappoint.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Hunger Games or Doctor Who
A New Companion

It was an early-springs's day when she met him.
The last of the winter snow was melting away, allowing the new growth to push through the earth. As Katniss walked toward the defunct electric fences that encircled the district, she could see the first dandelions starting to appear.
Katniss was following her usual morning schedule; just past dawn, she slipped out of the house to check the traps and see if she could find anything bigger to shoot with her bow. Afterwards, she'd trade what she could at the Hob. It was the same every day; it had been since her twelfth birthday.
However, that day, something strange happened.
As she crossed the field she heard the most peculiar sound;a wheezing, grating sound that seemed almost alien. Her head snapped up, trying to figure out where the sound had come from. From what she could tell, it was coming from a blue box, on a nearby hill.
Strange. She had never seen anything like it before.
Intrigued, Katniss walked toward it; slowly, carefully. Katniss brushed her hands gently across its surface. It felt smooth.
Suddenly, the doors to the blue box flew open, startling Katniss. A tall man stepped out, with dark brown, almost messy hair. He was in a suit, with a light brown overcoat. He looked around curiously, smiling when he saw Katniss.
"Excuse me, when am I?"
Katniss was puzzled by the question. How could the man not know where, or even when he was?
"Um, you're in District Twelve," Katniss began, continuing when the man gestured that he wanted more information. "District Twelve of Panem. It's about 73 years after the Rebellion."
The man frowned. "Not the nicest place to live, is it? The bad won't last much longer though"
"Who are you?" Katniss asked, unimpressed.
"I'm the Doctor," The man replied. It just made Katniss more confused; was he an actual doctor? If so, what was he doing here? After all, no-one in District Twelve could afford doctors, only herbal healers.
"How did you get here?" Katniss asked him. There was something odd about the man, this Doctor, yet she found herself beginning to trust him.
"Wow, you ask a lot of questions," The Doctor replied, smiling. "I like that. But anyway, I came here in this," He pointed to the blue box. "My TARDIS."
"TARDIS?"
"Time And Relative Dimensions In Space," The Doctor elaborated. "It takes me anywhere I need to be. It's a time machine."
Katniss was shocked. "That's...not possible."
"It's true," The Doctor said, beaming, reaching out his hand to take hers. "I'll show you. Anywhere in time and space."
Katniss was tempted. She could go anywhere, escape the districts, the oppression, the fear. She stepped forward, to take his hand, but stopped.
"I can't," Katniss said, sadly. "My little sister needs me."
The Doctor seemed thoughtful for a second. "What's your name? You seem awfully familiar."
"Katniss Everdeen," Katniss replied.
"The Katniss Everdeen? Well, the future has big things in store for you!" The Doctor said, smiling. "Trust me. I'll take you on one trip forwards, one back, and I'll drop you back right here, only a few minutes in the future."
"You promise?"
"Promise."
Katniss gave a small smile, and took the Doctor's hand.
"Come on then," The Doctor said. "Allons-y!"
