Resolution
It was New Years Eve and the snow was falling fast outside the window at 525 Western Road in Southport, New York a small town half an hour from New York City. Soft piano music flowed up from the radio. Seymour carried a tray with hot chocolate and cookies into the living room and joined Audrey on the couch.
"I'm really glad we stayed in tonight Audrey."
Audrey nodded in agreement. "Me too. I would have hated going out tonight. The roads look very unsafe for driving and that snow is coming down furiously."
Seymour snuggled up against his girlfriend
"Audrey I'm so glad we're together."
"Me too Seymour moving here was the best thing we ever did. Skid Row was not a great living environment."
Seymour nodded in agreement. "Too much filth and crime. Not a great environment to eventuaally raise a family in?"
Audrey's eyes grew wide like saucers.
"Family?"
Seymoour was surpised by his girlfriend's expresssion.
"Yes. I always dreamed of starting a family with you Audrey. I think we'd be excellent parents."
"But Seymour we ain't even married yet how can we have kids?:"
Seymour raised a finger to his lips and a pulled a small box from the pocket of his shirt.
Inside was a diamond engagement ring.
"Audrey will you marry me?"
There was silence. Seymour could clearly tell she was in shock.
"Yes of couse I wanna marry you Seymour."
They embraced and suddenly the clocck started ticking away.
"Seymour, what do you want to see happen in 1959?" Audrey asked
" Audrey I want to give you everything possible in a marriage. I am resolving to hire more full time employees at the store so we can go on a vaction. What's you resolution my love?"
Audrey was silent for a few minutes
"I''m gonna resolve to get my GED... finish what I stated and maybe I'lll even get a second job too so we have enough money to support a family."
3 2 1 Happy New Year
Audtrey and Seymour kissed again. So much would be ahead for them in the coming year. It was all quite exciting.
