She glanced out over Rivendell, the home of her Elven kind
But what she saw grieved her heart and troubled thoughts crossed her mind
Despite the calmness of where she stood, peace she could not find
For there was sorrow in the air and it could not be left behind
Far across the distant plains, a battle drew to an end
Bodies stained the barren land with blood of foe and friend
The victors thought that they would no longer need to defend
But a shattering blow to their mighty leader Fate decided to send
Suddenly there was a cry which was heard in lands afar
"I am sorry I have failed you, my beloved Evenstar
My life ends but your happiness I do not wish to mar
Please forgive me for failing you, my beloved Evenstar"
At that moment the mighty soldier fell onto the ground
For in his heart which now beat slow, an arrow was to be found
Death came quick and in his thoughts of love, he slowly drowned
Uttering a last "I love you" after which he made no sound
When she finally received confirmation on a fateful summer's day
No Elvish medicine from Rivendell could make the pain go away
To ease the anguish in her soul the fair lady decided to pray
"I am sorry my beloved, I did not mean for us to end this way"
But no amount of praying could answer her question "why?"
Why did her beloved so early have to die?
Bitter tears, heartbroken tears, all these tears she did cry
But the pain wouldn't go away, though she did her best to try
Each lonely day that passed left an empty void in her heart
She couldn't stand the pain of her soul being ripped apart
So one morning she made a decision, not knowing if it was smart
And that morning, from her city of Rivendell she did depart
Seasons changed and years passed and though her father did plea
"Sweet daughter of mine, who is divine, please return to me"
"Father though I love you, I will not return for I want to be free
Among the woods and the lakes and the seas, I can ease my misery"
So tales were told of a beautiful elf with a face sad and long
Who, though as beautiful as the world, did not seem to belong
It was often past the Seas this grey figure wandered along
Sometimes sleeping, sometimes silent, sometimes singing this song:
"O, why did they take my beloved away, why was I left alone?
Why did Fate not realise I can not live on my own?
Though we may be parted now, I hope my song has shown
That your love for me is the greatest gift I have ever known"
When the world decided this lonely soul it could no longer keep
The grey figure shed a tear and fell into a sorry heap
But though her suffering was great, the world did not weep
For love would be reunited in the eternity of sleep
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I felt really restless today and couldn't seem to concentrate on anything. So the only thing to do is write a poem. I've been focussing more on my original poems lately (you could always read them, I have the link for them in my bio *smiles sweetly* ) but I couldn't seem to get the words together for an original poem today. And then I thought- I haven't written a LOTR poem in ages and ages. So I wrote one! I hope they're still okay :) This time (and I think for the first time), I focussed on the great Arwen/Aragorn love story. It's always fascinated me but it seems very complex so I decided to do a bit of a rewrite to make it easier for me, hehe. Anyway, enough of my ramblings (but hey, that's me!) Hope you enjoyed. Please review and tell me your opinion. Greatly appreciated :)
