Bowl of Soup
Munich, Germany 1924
Edward Elric got out of bed with a yawn. It was pretty quiet in the house, which was strange because Al usually was up before him. He looked at his cloak to see if he had woken up early. It was 9:30, and Al was usually up at 8. He quietly walked over to Al's room to make sure he was ok. He knocked on the door, then poked his head in.
"Al?"
Al was still bundled up in bed with the blankets. He groaned when he heard his brother say his name and looked at him.
"I think I caught a cold" he said in his sick voice.
Ed walked over and put his flesh hand on his forehead. He did feel a bit warm, so he decided to let him stay home from school.
"You just rest for a while"
Al nodded and rolled over away from him. Ed quietly exited his room, but left the door open in case he had to run for the bathroom. Ed was glad he didn't have to work today, otherwise he would have to make a decision between money and taking care of his brother (Of course Al ruled over most things like that). He went back to his room to change and put his hair up, then walked into the kitchen. He looked at the stove, then got an idea. After washing a pot and making sure he had enough ingredients he rolled up his sleeves and tied an apron around his waist.
"Now let's see if I remember how to do this"

Ed yawned and sat up in bed. Then he looked across the room at his seven year old brother still in bed. He got dressed then walked over to him.
"Hey Al it's time to get up sleepy head"
Al just groaned, so Ed knew something was wrong. He quickly walked into the kitchen where his mother Trisha was making breakfast.
"Mom I think Al's sick"
Trisha turned off the stove then walked into Ed and Al's room to check on hr youngest son. Ed waited patiently in the kitchen munching on his bacon and eggs. When his mom came back in he looked at her hoping that it was nothing serious.
"It's just a cold, hell need to rest for a while"
Ed sighed. He was glad his brother would be fine, but it also meant that he couldn't play with him all day.
"Is there anything I can do to make him feel better?" he asked.
"Why don't you go wash your hands and then help me make the soup for him"
Ed looked at his hands. They didn't look dirty, but he was only eight so he didn't know much about germs. He nodded then walked towards the bathroom.
"Make sure you use soap!" his mom called after him.
"Ok..."
After he had washed his hands (with soap) he walked back into the kitchen to find his mom cutting up some carrots and celery. He wasn't allowed to help cut because of the sharp knives, but he put the ingredients into the pot, stirred it, and tasted it.
Ed took a taste of the soup he recreated from memory. It had tasted exactly the way his mom had made it, so he was a bit proud of himself. It had been the last time she had made soup he remembered, because she got sick shortly afterwords. It was then that he got to make soup for her with Al's help, an now here he was making it again years later.
He put the lid on the pot so it would stay warm, then he went to check on Al. He was fast asleep, so he decided to wait until he woke up. It was around lunch time when he brought it to him on a tray along with some milk. Al had been up for a few minutes when he came in.
"Lunch time"
Al looked at the tray in front of him. Memories came back as he tasted the soup and he smiled up at his brother.
"Thanks brother"
