It was a normal winter day at Becky's school, and Becky, along with the rest of the student government, was decorating the school for Christmas. Becky was hanging some garland over the lockers, and Violet was hanging plastic candy canes, paper Christmas stars, and other miscellaneous wall decorations…including mistletoe.
Violet was hanging the one mistletoe in the box of decorations the principal gave her to use when she spotted Tobey turning the corner, walking down the hallway she and Becky were decorating. She saw Becky discreetly look over to Tobey, then look quickly back to her work, a rosy blush forming on her cheeks. Violet smirked, a sly idea forming in her head.
She quickly moved the ladder near Becky's and decided to hang the mistletoe there on the ceiling.
"Hey, Becky, do you think this looks good here?" Violet asked as she pointed up to the mistletoe, watching Tobey get closer to them as she did so.
"Sure, it's fine." Becky responded as she stepped off of her ladder. As she reached the floor, Tobey bumped into her, as she had stepped directly into his path.
"Pardon me…oh, hello Becky." Tobey said, realizing who he had bumped into. Since the two had grown older, they had begun to forget their foolish arguing…or, at least, Tobey and Becky had. The two had realized that they shouldn't squander their energy arguing, because they had realized that they don't even know why they hate each other. They weren't exactly friends, but no longer were Becky and Tobey enemies.
"Oh, hi Tobey." Becky said shyly, rubbing her arm nervously. The two were silent until Violet nudged Becky's arm and cleared his throat, pointing up at the mistletoe. Becky's eyes grew wide as she looked up at the mistletoe and back down to see that she and Tobey were standing underneath it. Violet slowly backed away and disappeared around the corner into the next hallway.
The two were now awkwardly silent, as they had no idea what to do. Becky wasn't disgusted by the idea of them sharing a Christmas kiss, but she didn't exactly want to do anything.
Tobey, however, had begun to think about his…acquaintance. He was starting to get over his childish crush on Wordgirl, and starting to place those feelings on Becky. The fact that she accepted him as a sort of a friend instead of liking someone who would never feel the same way felt nice to him. And he didn't want to ruin that by opening his big mouth.
"I, uhh, I gotta, umm…" Becky stuttered. "I have work to do, so…"
"Yeah, umm…see you later, I guess." Tobey finished. But before he demanded his legs to move, he quickly gave Becky a peck on the cheek.
"Happy holidays." He said shyly as he ran off. Becky held her cheek where he had kissed her and the corners of her lips poked upwards into a smile.
Violet, having watched the endeavor, smiled as well.
