Lana Lang hadn't asked for to much in her life, she didn't think. She
only had a few dreams. Dreams of her parents, of true friends. Dreams of
Clark. Of growing out of her Time Cover. She had wished for these all
many, many times
Her wish for family was answered when she saw the
photos of her mother and Henry together. She accepted him on photographic
evidence alone; the results from Lex's DNA test didn't matter, the fact
that they didn't look a like didn't matter. Aunts were nothing compared to
a true, blood parent that she had wanted all her life. Neither were
roommates.
Lana wish of friendship came just as easily. Chloe,
Clark, and Pete came to her as one giant, lovable group. She was popular
despite falling out with her ex, despite quitting the squad. If she ever
needed information, Chloe was there. If she ever needed a laugh, Pete was
there. If she ever needed help, Clark was there. It really didn't matter
if Whitney used to do all three.
She thought, seeing as she had
three wishes, that she deserved Clark as well. So when the opportunity was
hot, she struck. Lex had taught her to turn to the mattresses and the idea
worked to well to let go when Chloe wrote Clark that letter. Her heart had
struck its claim; she wouldn't be put off course nor deigned. She loved
Clark, and he loved her.
For a short time, her life was perfection.
Her wishes had been granted. Lana was happy; it was living in a dream. No,
a fairy tale⦠a fairytale and she was the princess who woke up to find all
their heart's desires at her feet. And, for once, she didn't mind being
the fairy princess.
But Henry had left her, abandoned her, after
all the hardships she had endured to claim him. Pete's jokes stopped after
Clark left and he always looked at her as if she had caused it. When Chloe
met her sobs with cold hearted disapproval, she felt the last stone of
their friendship had been cast off as well. And when she went to
Metropolis, and told Clark she loved him, he laughed and turned
away.
Her dreams had been nightmares; her wishes un-cast. When she
returned home, Clark was already there. Already there, already sitting in
her restaurant, already trying to fix things with Chloe. When he looked
up, he breathed her name as if she were the forgotten girl. As if she was
the one who was a second thought, an after thought.
All her life
Lana had wanted to out grow the fairy princess title. Growing out of that
had been her biggest wish, more than parents, more than friends. Even more
than Clark.
It wasn't until then that she realized she was never one to begin with.
