the ballad of john & yoko

"Imagine all the lonely people." Demyx says suddenly. The air is thick with sweat and the lighting is hazy at best. Neither of you know what time it is.

You turn your face to the wall. There's a picture of Larxene and Axel on your wall, dancing cheek to cheek. She looks like a little girl playing dress-up; Axel looks like a backwards version of Charlie Chaplain, minus the mustache.

You feel a little lonely and think of Demyx imagining you.

"I refuse." You sing back to him. You push at his gangly boy-legs with your tiny little girl-feet, grinning. It's funny as long as you don't get sad and cry and maybe ruin everything.

Demyx asks, "Ever miss someone when they're right next to you?"

You think, always.

You think of Axel, watching Princess Diana die over and over again.

You think of Larxene, tapping her heels against the floor and asking you just who you think you are, you little shit, you little punk, you little bitch.

You think of Demyx, singing and performing for people who don't know he's beautiful.

You think of them all, living.

You bear your teeth and say, "Never."
