A/N: Here's my version of the 1:14, That Damn Donna Reed what-if. Most people do the 'what-if-they-kissed' bit, but that's not how I'm gonna write it.
This goes out to J.Stone, who wanted some fluff. Is this fluffy enough for you?
Italics are dialogue from the actual episode.
"Hey, Luke, what did you mean earlier?" Lorelai asked tentatively.
"What are you talking about?"
"When you got here." Luke tensed, pretty sure he knew the comment she was referring to. "You made some comment about me not really having a chick in the house."
Bingo. He was right.
"I mean, if I didn't have a chick here, why did you think I was calling?"
"No, I thought you were calling about the chick." He lied.
"It didn't seem like it."
"Well, maybe it didn't seem like it, but it was."
"Was… what?" She asked, confused.
"Was what I … thought – Can we just keep looking?" He was anxious to get the topic of discussion off of his mistake.
"Okay. I just still think that…" She trailed off.
"That what?" He asked, standing.
"That you didn't believe me." She said, setting up the guilt trip.
"I-" She cut him off.
"I mean, if you didn't believe me, then that means you don't trust me."
"Lore-" Luke started, but she interrupted.
"And if you don't trust me…"
"I tr-" She cut him off again.
"Then we… must not be friends. Because friends trust each other, right?"
"Right." He replied, thankful that she seemed to be through with her little rant.
"Well, then, why didn't you believe me?" She asked.
"A lost chick seemed…."
"Seemed…?" Lorelai signaled him to continue.
"Seemed a little… eccentric." He replied as he joined her on the couch.
"Do you not know me?" She asked jokingly. Then she her tone became more serious. "But… if you thought there was no chick, then why did you think I was calling?"
There was that question again. He figured lying was not the way out this time. So he decided to tell her the truth. "I just… I thought you might've wanted to… to see me or… or talk to me or something. But it was stupid, I know it was stupid, you can just fo-"
Lorelai interrupted him yet again, in a soft voice. "It wasn't stupid."
"What?" He asked, having not heard her.
"It… it was nothing." She replied as she shifter her gaze to her hands, thoroughly embarrassed.
"It was something." Luke probed.
"I just said that… it wasn't… it wasn't stupid."
"It wasn't?" He inquired, surprised.
"No." She smiled, re-meeting his gaze. "It wasn't stupid at all."
"I'm glad to hear it." He said, filled with confidence.
Neither had any idea what exactly was happening, but before they knew it they were kissing. His arms were around her waist, her hands were in his hair and suddenly she pulled away. Quickly she stood up and buried her face in her hands. "Oh my God…" Lorelai mumbled into her flesh. She pushed her hands back and through her hair. She turned back to face Luke. "What the hell was that?"
"That," He said, standing as well. "Was perfect."
She smiled, confusion and uncertainties gone. "It was, wasn't it?" With that, she took his face in her hands and she kissed him.
And this time she had no doubts about what would happen between them.
Because right then, everything was perfect.
The End!
