Harry blinked his eyes trying to adjust to the dark.
He stood silent. The world around him was silent too. Something had happened, he wasn't quite sure what.
"Why is it so dark?" he asked.
"It is always dark in the beginning" said a voice next to him. A familiar voice.
Harry reached out blindly trying to figure out where he was.
Someone grabbed his arm. The same someone that had spoken to him moments before.
"War has many outcomes."
"I don't understand." Harry could almost make out the person next to him. He smiled. He knew that shape.
Dumbledore put his arm around Harry. "When you defeated Voldemort for the last time..."
"What?" Harry looked at him with questions in his eyes.
"He was so strong, he had most of the world's powers in him. When you destroyed him, it destroyed the world."
Harry shook his head, more confused than ever. "Then, why... are we still here?"
"I wish I knew. Perhaps... you still hold a part of the world within you. A part that is still good, and pure." Dumbledore tried to make sense of what was happening himself.
"Why are you here?" Harry asked next.
"To be a guide of sorts, maybe to help you figure out why this is happening" replied Dumbledore.
Harry paced back and forth. Everything was gone. His friends, everyone he knew and loved. Now, he was stuck here in this, nothingness. How could he be expected to start over? How would he even know how to? He blinked back tears, but one trickled down his cheek and hit the ground. Harry watched in stunned silence as the area around his feet began to glow. "Dumbledore, what's going on?" he asked, alarm in his voice.
Dumbledore didn't answer. He couldn't. He didn't understand either.
Through the glow Harry could see the world the way it once was. Only, better. There was only peace. The hatred that had been there before, the anger, the fear, all of it was gone.
Suddenly Harry felt a jolt go through his body. He woke moments later, or what seemed like moments later. People were standing over him.
"Harry, are you alright? What happened to you?" asked Ron.
Hermione stood over Harry with her wand pointed at him. "Move out of the way, I'll fix him!" she demanded of the crowd that was gathering.
Harry sat up slowly and stared at them. "Ron, Hermione! Wow, I'm so glad to see you!" he jumped up and hugged them both.
They looked at him puzzled. "Well?"
Harry laughed "You wouldn't believe me if I told you" he said and winked at Dumbledore who stood silently watching the three friends.
Dumbledore chuckled and walked away.
"What?? You're not getting off that easily, tell us what happened!" Ron and Hermione screamed at him.
"Okay, okay" Harry laughed again as the three of them walked away while Harry told them everything that had happened.
All was right with the world.
