Author's Note: I got this story from my brother who got this from a friend at camp. So all the credit goes to my younger bro and his friend at camp. Enjoy!
"So once day, this boy and his family were traveling through the Eastern Steppes and they came to this abandoned farm. And this pig started following them and the boy decided the pig could be his pet. So now I give you, The Adventure of the, Pig!
So one morning, the pig wandered off. He came to this little valley, and in the valley there was this dragon. The dragon roasted the pig to a crisp and sold him as bacon at Publix for a nice price of $5.99.
The End!"
The children stared up with curious eyes at Will.
"Why did the pig die Daddy?" asked Octavia, her eyes wide.
"Um, I dunno'." Will said. He really had no idea.
"What's 'Publix'?" Mia gave her father's cat Bramble a squeeze as she asked the question. The tabby cat squirmed out of her grip and fled to Will's lap where he once again regained his calm attitude.
"I don't know about that either."
"Who told you that story Daddy?" Little Halt cocked his small head and regarded his thoughtful father from his dark eyes.
"Actually, your grandfather told me that."
"HALT told you that story!" Eileen smiled at Will. "I had no idea that he was capable of telling stories at all."
"Well he did." Will smiled back at her. "And I still to this day do not know where in the world he got that from!"
Many years ago
Halt stared up at his father, the king of Clonmel, with the all the solemnity that a four year old can muster. "Dad where did you get that story from?"
"Well," said his father. "My father before told me that story. And his father told him, and his father's father and so on and so on. That story had been passed from father to son for some unknown reason for generations. If you ever have a son, tell him that story."
Halt's eyes glittered with excitement at the thought of being able to tell the story someday. "I will!"
And so, Halt passed the Pig story tradition to Araluen.
