AN: Another one of my recently discovered one-shots! This one is a little depressing, but I hope it's still good. Feel free to review, follow, or favorite me, and happy reading!

Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy VII in any way, shape, form or fashion.

Aerith was tending to her garden when she saw it.

She was working in the old, worn-down church in the city of Midgar. It had been four years since Aerith had last seen or heard from Zack, since she had written eighty-nine letters to him, though he failed to write back.

She worked in the bright, sun-radiated garden in her usual attire. A red ribbon, a gift from Zack, was tied to hold her waist-long braid, shoulder-length curls on either side of her face, framing it beautifully, and exaggerated bangs rising from the rest of her brunette-haired head. She wore a pink mini-jacket that stood out from her lighter pink dress.

Aerith remembered when she first met Zack, the day he seemingly fell from the sky. "I used to be afraid of the sky," she had said, swaying in different directions, Zack's Mako-contaminated blue eyes watching her. He would flirt with her and she'd refuse, but she loved his playful attitude. His smile was promising, letting her know that everything would be okay. Oh, how she missed him so!

She stood up, taking a break to look towards the sun, its shining light warming her body. Her eyes glimmered as she gasped, a vision shooting through her mind.

He lied on hard rock, possibly in the desert. His eyes were pure, ocean blue. She saw his face covered in dirt and blood, and his torso covered with holes the size of bullets. A large puddle of blood surrounded him as she saw that he appeared to no longer be breathing.

She didn't want to see more, for a dull rain had started, and a pool of tears began to pour from her eyes. Zack Fair, the ambitious and cocky ex-SOLDIER, was dead. Little did Aerith Gainsborough know that later she would be stabbed through with the long blade belonging to the Jenova-crazed Sephiroth. Farewell, Aerith and Zack, and rest in peace.

Cloud says hi. Sorry, were you teary-eyed? I just wrecked that, didn't I? Oh well, it's nice to have some words to lighten the mood. I apologize for the shortness, but this was an original piece from a few years ago when I thought a one-shot of this size was fairly long. My bad. XD
