Haunting of the night sky

The murk clouded my vision, the air was dry and sand swirled around me as we headed east. It had been a long day, possibly days, I had lost track of time, the heat did that, the heart ache did that, not waiting to know how long you've been away from your loved ones or in my case not waiting to know how long it had been since I had seen them.

Night was always the worst setting up camp, the hot, damp, dark conditions listening to the silence of the night sky. That's when you were truly alone and that's when the things I try to forget come back to haut me. Dylan, Ian … Layla.

…Flashback…

"Dylan, I need to tell you something… something important"

"Samantha, whatever it is it can wait the hospital is already understaffed and they are expecting a major ATC! We have to go now!"

"But Dylan!"

"Samantha, come on…" Dylan sighed attempting to get his wife out of the house

"Dylan, I'm leaving."

"Well it's about time, come on then lets get going."

"No, Dylan you don't understand; I'm leaving you"

Tears streamed down Sam's cheeks as she lay in her cot thinking of her Dylan. Clutching the photo she carried of him firmly in her palm, to ensure that no one would take him from her, she thought of Ian, Layla and she even thought of her ex-colleague Zoe and the thought of her estrange husband's relationship with her. Making her eye produce more tears which cascaded down her cheeks, but she had to remember "I was the one who cheated" and with that said she closed her eyes and sobbed silently to herself as she remembered what she left behind in Holby.
