AN: A very happy birthday to America!
Enjoy.
America was bleary eyed as he entered the meeting room, late. He hated the early time of the meeting. He'd not managed to get much sleep the previous night. But he only mumbled an apology as he took a seat. It took him a few moments of sitting in silence to get woke up enough to return to acting normal.
As soon as he was back to normal, a small voice spoke to his left. He turned and looked, only to see a faint outline. He rolled his eyes. "Canadia."he greeted with a cheeky grin.
Nobody questioned him.
The same small voice from before spoke again. "Happy birthday, America."
America smiled faintly. "Thanks, dude."
Silence returned.
Nobody else spoke for the longest before Italy decided to break the silence. "So it's your birthday? Do you have any plans?"he questioned. He seemed much more subdued, but with the way Germany kept glaring at him, America couldn't question it.
America shrugged. "Yeah."he responded, then tilted his head.
Nobody commented on the fact that he didn't answer the second question.
After the meeting, America bid them all a farewell and headed back home. France glanced over, finding Canada staring after his brother in confusion before he spoke. "Amerique's spending his birthday at home, non?"
Canada looked up in surprise and nodded. "Oui. He never said anything to me about anything else."
France looked over at England, who was walking away in the opposite direction of them. Finally, he called out. "Angleterre!"
England cursed and turned to look at him. "What do you want, Frog?"he asked as he approached.
France spoke , keeping his voice soft. "Amerique is spending his birthday on his own."he told the nation.
England, who wanted to leave and lock himself away from everyone else again, let his old brotherly instinct kick back in and sighed. "Why are you informing me of this?"
Canada spoke. "We thought maybe you would be willing to help us get something together for him?"
It took a little convincing, but they got him to agree.
It didn't take long to set up at an empty park in town. Then Canada left to call America, ask him to come out for a while.
America was hesitant when he entered the limits of the park, taking in his surroundings like he was about to be attacked. Nobody blamed him.
Still, it really did surprise him when he noticed the party they had set up. He blinked in surprise. This was the last thing he expected.
The end of the party was announced by fireworks that someone had gotten ahold of. America found himself smiling at the sight of the colours of his flag on display in the sky. Sure, he'd seen them before, every year from a distance as his people celebrated their independence, but knowing that the other nations had put it together made it seem more personal.
Before he left, he gave them an unusually polite thank you and helped pick up, just to return the gratitude he felt towards them.
When he got home, he collapsed in his room, thinking the day over. It hadn't been too bad this year. Even England had been there, and he didn't seem too upset. He was just glad the party had went well instead of it being fighting, something he hated on a normal day in a meeting.
That was his last thought before drifting to sleep and allowing himself the rest he needed.
Now, I'll have another one of these posted soon enough, sometime in a couple of hours. I must return to my Doctor Who marathon. This was written for my group's America, because I know she's going to torture me today anyways. So, yeah. Happy birthday, America.
