"Sometimes, he would look back and wonder exactly what the hell went wrong.

Two boys, friends since childhood, gang buddies since middle school. They had made a promise.
"I won't let the gang ruin our friendship. Our minds and our hearts."
The two of them were damn sentimental about free-will, that's for sure.
Until the Fisherman died.
That's when it all went south.
"Haruka. Haruka, dammit!" A loud voice was shouting in his ear. He had been zoning out again.
"What, Yamazaki?" Yamazaki Sousuke was angrily messing with the trigger of his AK-47.
"What's your plan? How do we take down the あかいへび?" Nagisa Hazuki asked, attempting to calm Sousuke before he shot Haruka full of lead. Again.
"I don't know," Haru said. "We'll just…do as we please." He shrugged complacently. Why were techniques and positions so important for fighting? It's not as if winning or losing really mattered, was it? After all, no matter what, win or lose, we're all going to die sometime.
"Do as we please?!" Yamazaki seethed. "We're going to fuc-"
"Language, Sou-chan. We've got a youngster here." Nagisa pointed to the tall redhead in the corner, holding his gun and pretending to hunt the seagulls that went by.
"Flippin' die if we don't have a plan." Haru rolled his eyes.
"I have to agree with Sousuke on this one, Haru. We need to work together. Remember what happened in Osaka?"
"Don't discuss Osaka with a first-year right there, Nagisa." The newbie spy looked to the other three curiously. He was the younger brother of a famous general, a complete star amongst men.
Haru didn't quite know what to make of this lanky, stag-beetle obsessed teenager, though.
""Hey, kid." The boy turned his attention to Haru.
"Sir?" he asked carefully.
"Don't call me that. This isn't the army, idiot. How old are you?"
"I'm, uh, 14."
"Really? Well, from now on, if anyone asks you, you're 17. Got it? We have no room for babies here."
"Y-yes, sir…" Haru's face relaxed in amusement.
" So, uh…" He checked his team's files on his wristwatch.
"Momotarou…What do you think we should do as a plan?" The kid leaned back and thought for a bit.
" Why don't we just go in, guns blazing? Y'know, charge with brute force? They'll never know what hit 'em!"
Haru and Sousuke simultaneously scoffed in disgust. Such an arrogant little kid.
"We'd get annihilated, dumba-"
"Sousuke…" Yamazaki bit his tongue reluctantly.
Nagisa began to rise./p
"Well, why don't we get going? I'll just-"
"Get down!"
A flurry of gunshots rang through the air, nearly murdering the blonde shota and his kouhai, if not for Sousuke's warning.
"Ah… The あおいつき...Had a feeling I'd find you idiots here."
