Hello, everyone... I'm back after quite some time and I can't apologize enough for the long absence. I also can't thank you enough for all the messages you've sent me and reviews you've written. The only way I can is by giving this story another chance. I re-read what I have posted so far and decided to rewrite chapter and remove some of the mistakes I made, because you deserve to read them properly written.

I won't be making changes to the story or the plot. Changes I will make will be only in wording beside my attempt to correct every grammar and spelling error I made in the first place.

I decided to put the rewritten first chapter immediately to get me going. I expect to be able to finish and re-post others very soon and of course, finally add chapter 8 and more of the new until I finish the story.

Thank you again for reading and showing interest... XOXO

Chapter 1

Wade Kinsella was a man of many talents, one of them definitely being sneaking out of girls' bedrooms in the morning. On occasion he would return to the crime scene because Bluebell wasn't a big town after all, but it would be just for some more physical pleasure and never gave it that much thought. A willing girl was all he needed to get by.

That's how it was until a certain young doctor moved in next door and started blowing the fuse box on a daily basis. She talked too much, she walked too fast in heels that were a little too high and shorts a little too short… Everything about her was a little bit too much; a little too smart, a little too pretty, a little too crazy, as well… And she was also a little too good for him.

Deep down Wade knew he couldn't possibly hope to be more than a culture shock induced adventure in her life. She was a doctor, he was a bartender. And while she graduated from Med school, had prospects of great career and her father was the number one cardio surgeon in the world, he had barely finished high-school, had prospects of nothing and his father was the town drunk nicknamed Crazy Earl.

He was aware of it all, just like he was aware of the fact she was in love with George Tucker and that he was terrified to admit that he was in love with her.

When he opened his eyes that morning, it took him a while to understand where he was. But, the smell of the silky sheets quickly sparked up some memory of last night and a little smile crept on his face. As his head fell to the side Wade noticed that the bed was empty and the only trace of her being there was her perfume imprinted on the fabric.

Wade wasn't used to waking up without the urge to run away. But, as he lay there with want to stick around didn't really surprise. It didn't surprise him, but it did scare him, same as her not being there now did.

Sighing, he dragged himself out of bed and scanned the floor for his clothes, only to find them neatly placed on the chair. He chuckled. It was so like her. She had this obsession about things being in order. Not pathological or anything of the sort, but she did like everything planned out and as organized as possible. He guessed that waking next to him wasn't really on one of her 'to do' lists so she put some order in the whole situation by folding his clothes.

Having to put on suit two times in two days could qualify as Wade's nightmare. At least, this time he didn't have to worry about buttons and that the knot on his tie wasn't crooked. So, he just let the shirt swing open with the tie casually thrown over his neck. Slipping his feet in shoes she stood up and was ready to leave, but the screen door creaked and seconds later, she appeared before him.

"Damn, you've caught me!" Wade said jokingly with a lopsided smile on his face.

She smiled back, but quickly averted her look and offered him a plate with two peanut butter sandwiches and jelly on it.

"Well, thank you, Doc" he said and chuckled. "What did I do to deserve this? That good, huh?"

"Nothing, just thought you might be hungry", she finally spoke and ignored his last remark.

"You thought right".

With that, Wade took a large bite of the sandwich. He eyed her carefully as she walked around the room. It's not the he expected her to be all cheerful the morning after, but it looked like something more was going on. She was pensive and worried and definitely not her usual perky self.

"You alright, Doc?"

She didn't respond.

"Zoe?"

That seemed to do the trick since she turned around to look at him. He rarely called her by her name. It was almost something he kept up his sleeve when he needed her to pay attention. As she nodded to answer his question she had obviously heard before, he noticed the apologetic look in her eyes. Wade chose to ignore it.

"Did you… uh… Did you see Lavon at the house?" he asked again, casually. "He said anything 'bout last night? You know, about me being here and all…?"

Zoe shook her head. "No, I guess he's still asleep…" she paused a little. "And… um… that wasn't him at the door last night".

Wade stopped chewing and raised his eyebrows at her.

"Oh… I thought he came to check up on you-"

"It was George…" this time Zoe was looked him straight in the eye and for the first time that morning Wade wished she didn't.

Suddenly, there was this huge elephant in the room. With her eyes still on him he didn't dare ask anything too careful not to move and give away that stupid feeling that was clenching his gut. Wade's mind was racing thinking about ways to handle this. Last thing he wanted was her to think it was a big deal… It wasn't like he professed his love or anything. They were just two people attracted to each other and acting out on that feeling. She knew who he was and he just had to act in that manner, but if only that wasn't so hard right now.

"He didn't get married" Zoe said the only logical thing in sudden silence. "He came here last night to tell me that he couldn't… because of me".

Not making a big deal suddenly seemed even harder. Golden boy managed to do the right thing, again. Well, not exactly right; not by his book, but she will think of it as such. And like he had any right to question George Tucker's decisions, he felt angry…

"Well, it seems that Bluebell was struck with more than just a storm last night" he said eventually.

"Yeah, I guess" Zoe replied weakly.

"Hey, cheer up, Doc. See how you almost got us killed last night for nothing!" he even managed a smile.

"Wade, don't… ", she jumped. "It's not like I'm happy it turned out like this".

"Didn't say you were" Wade replied almost grateful for the angry spark in her voice.

How everything got so messed up in the matter of hours, he thought to himself. Twelve hours ago they were saving a baby goat in the middle of the storm and ended up making love in this very room. Now, they were looking at each other, swallowing what they really wanted to say and talked about a cancelled wedding.

"How's your back?"

"Will be fine in a few days", she replied absently.

And Wade downright hated this whole situation. He was used to hearing her joke and laugh in the morning or yell at him for the even more stupid jokes he made. Nothing about her was the same this morning and he hated George even more for it.

"I'm gonna go…" he said finally. In his opinion there was no point in pressing the matter. She looked at him and he tried not to see it by turning around to put the plate on the bed. "I can't wait to get out of this suit and…And well, thank you for the breakfast, Doc".

With that, he just smiled at her shortly and headed for the door, decided to leave the room before he chokes.

"Wade…" Zoe called after him.

Biting his lower lip and letting his head drop back just a little, Wade stopped at the door way. He turned around slowly afraid of what he might face or hear.

"About last night…" she started not sounding like herself. She didn't even look like herself. It was like she stopped being Zoe Hart over night.

"Yeah?"

"I didn't… I don't…".

Usually, she was the one good with words; she could always find the right one to hit the target. Not now and not today no matter how hard she tried.

"Doc, don't bump your head over it…" Wade said not completely sure what she was referring to, but went with the safest option.

"I don't really do this, you know".

"Come on, Doc…I'm me! We were pretty clear about everything last night. You know, sexual frustration, testing the theory and all" Wade was talking and with each new word his cheek muscles trembled from all the fake smiling.

"I'm not exactly expert in that field".

"Guessed that much".

Zoe blushed a little at this. He noticed her expression change, but from being relieved or being hurt, he couldn't tell. Having feelings for a girl kind of makes it harder to read them, Wade concluded finally.

"Well, that's that then…" to his ears this sounded both like a statement and a question. Smiling, he added "Guess I'll see you 'round, Doc".

Nothing could've stopped him from leaving the room. Well, there was something that could make him stay, but that didn't happen. Even if she did say something he wouldn't be able to hear her now. With just few large steps he was outside, breathing heavier and not smiling any more.

Wade didn't care if he walked too fast, running almost. He didn't care if he stepped in something a kind animal left in the grass. He strode forward with just one thought – to get out of that damned suit, hug a cart of cold beer and forget that the last day even happened.

Wade Kinsella was indeed of many talents, but one of them wasn't to avoid falling asleep after too many beers thinking about what he hoped to forget in the suit that still smelled just a little like her perfume.

A/N: I have cut out just a small part of text which I believed was redundant, that was all. As I promised changes will be minimal and will be done just to improve the story as much as it can be improved. Thank you again :)
