AN: this is an alternate ending to Psyche and Eros. I learned the real ending after I wrote this so I was surprised to find it similar. I still like my version better... lol.
Ending to "Psyche"
At last she could no longer stand the suspense and picked up the lamp and held it over his face.
What she saw surprised her; he wasn't horrible looking at all! He had the face of a god, in her opinion. She was gazing at his beauty; for with his tousled blonde hair, pale skin, and red lips, it could be called nothing else; when her husband awoke. She gasped when she realized what she had done; she had done exactly what her husband told her expressly not to do!
"What do you think you are doing?!" he said after knocking the lamp out of her hands.
"I-I w-was…I doubted you." She admitted shamefully, "My sisters…they made me awfully curious, I was afraid I had married a hideous monster! Surely you must understand?" Psyche was really, truly very sorry for what she had done and was afraid of her husband's apparent temper.
"Now you've seen," he sighed. "Do you recognize me, wife?" he asked, seemingly worried.
"I cannot say I do." Psyche was puzzled at her husband's mood swing.
"Hmmm…"
"May I ask, the Oracle at Delphi had said I was destined to marry a monster?"
"What is the greatest trouble for mankind?" Psyche was becoming terribly confused at her husband's answers; they were becoming evasive and downright strange.
"Anger?"
"No."
"Jealousy?"
"I'm afraid not."
"I do not know."
"Love." Surprised at his answer, she took a closer look at his face; even in the dark his features were unmistakable. Wild blonde hair, tall, pale, face of a god; wait. The face of a god. He looks almost like the painting outside the temple of…
"Eros?!" He snapped out of his musings at the sound of her voice.
"Yes?" He was smirking! The nerve of some…well I suppose we can't say 'people', now can we?
For instilling the desire to disobey her husband in their sisters, Psyche's sisters were cursed by her angered mother-in-law to never be able to have children. Meanwhile, Psyche and Eros were expecting their first born and were very happy together. I guess this is what you would call happily ever after, especially because Psyche became immortal soon after she discovered her husband's identity!
