When Juniper couldn't decide on what color she should use on sewing an article of clothing, she would always rely on Hugh. It was not for his vast knowledge on embroidery or the different message of colors, or because he was a book-smart genius; it was his quick decision-making that she desperately needed that she couldn't do, no matter how much she tried. Juniper was pretty indecisive if it was something she wasn't sure others would like or not, she didn't want to disappoint people just because she chose the wrong color or the wrong size. She just wanted to make them happy.
So when Hugh answers her question, like an angel giving her a reason to live, she would pursue it and finish what she was sewing.
"Hugh? What do you think is the best color for a winter sweater?"
"Try red."
"Thank you, Hugh."
That was the typical moment she would have with him whenever she asked him a question. Juniper would raise a question, and Hugh would answer it as concise as possible, unless she asked the reason why.
For that, she was contented.
Indeed, she made a red sweater. Winter was closing in, although Autumn just knocked on their door today. Juniper wasn't a huge fan of both seasons: they made the day solemn and sad. The leaves would fall down and dried up as the prepare themselves for the snow and harsh wind. Just like how she needed to stock up on fabrics to keep herself warm. Chilly climate would make her more vulnerable to sickness, which would end up worse than a coughing fit.
Juniper didn't really made the sweater for herself. She did it for someone else.
That someone didn't request her to do it, it was her initiation to sew. For the past few months, she was getting closer with Hugh thanks to the incident that transpired on their school. Robin had drifted away from them, not because of a rift, but because her schedule demanded for it. She still pursued being a prosecutor, but she couldn't lay down her passion for arts, so she ended up taking both. Robin herself wasn't really alone on her own; she managed to befriended a guy who shared the same interest as her.
This sweater wasn't really for Robin. Her hot-headed personality was enough to keep herself warm, she joked.
Juniper checked the sweater she finished making to see if she overlooked some problems. Proportions were good, not too tight, but not too loose either, no holes, thick enough to warm you up, perfect. She smiled in triumph. She hoped Hugh was going to like this one as a Christmas gift. She still had time to add some designs on the front and the back, maybe do some alterations if she miscalculated something, too.
Juniper was definitely looking forward for December to come. She just needed to wear three different sweaters in one go to keep herself warm and hopefully wouldn't catch a cold. It would be a shame if she missed the opportunity to see him open his gifts in her own eyes. Hopefully, he would catch on on the hints she would place on the sweater.
Author's Note: Just wanted to drop a short Hughniper short drabble as a break on writing Turnabout Flames.
