One thing many S&H fans love about Hutch is his chivalry toward women "from all walks of life" and his compassion for those who are down on their luck, especially street people and addicts. This poem draws from Hutch's own experiences with heroin withdrawal during "The Fix" and his passion to save Mickey, the young prostitute and addict, from "Bust Amboy." Just what advice might the White Knight have offered her to help Mickey turn her life around?
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the characters from "Starsky and Hutch." I do occasionally borrow them, but never with fraudulent intent or with an eye to monetary gain.
No Easy Fix
("Admonition to Mickey")
By e-pony
We call it a "fix,"
As if it were
The cure for all our ills –
A few needle pricks
To free the mind
And a handful of colored pills.
It's a potent mix:
The rush, the pain,
The debasement and the thrills.
You get your kicks
On a pleasure trip,
On a journey that slowly kills.
So, you turn some tricks
And sell your soul
For a couple of printed bills.
A few porno flicks
Pull in easy cash,
With some glossy, colored stills.
And the label sticks;
It's a lifelong curse,
Though you brave the cramps and chills.
They say no one picks
The junkie's world,
With its pushers, pimps and shills,
For your life's clock ticks,
As you seek to feed
A void no pleasure fills.
And the only "fix"
You'll ever find
Is the courage love instills.
