A/N: This is just a really short one-shot that takes place after Sarah returns from the Labyrinth. Inspired by the song sung in the Escher room, "Within You"
Disclaimer: I do not own Labyrinth or anything about it. I'm sure you already know that.
I move the stars for no one.
Sarah sat upon her bed, alone. The Labyrinth she had conquered just the day before filled her mind. She kept glancing up at the mirror, expecting, hoping, to catch a glimpse of her friends in its reflective surface.
But what she did see, the glint of starlight, the fluttering of an owl's wings, brought her head up. To see the mismatched eyes watching her, and then they were gone.
I have reordered time.
The clock in the parlor struck midnight. In her mind's eye, she saw the hands alighting upon the thirteenth hour. His face, a mask of frustration or despair, then she was falling. Falling from the realms of a shattered dream and into reality. Only…it no longer felt real. She kept seeing his face. Those beautiful eyes gazing into her own. He had offered her her dreams. But it was all a lie. Wasn't it?
I have turned the world upside down…
A crystal rolled across the floor, coming to rest at the foot of her bed. A clear, perfect crystal, distorting her reflected features. And in it, she saw what she always used to want. Her, at the masquerade ball. A beautiful gown, white and pure. Her dark hair swept in delicate curls about her head. She was dancing. He was like starlight, the blond-haired Fae. His gaze mesmerizing. Locked onto hers. Then the scene transformed.
The Escher room in the castle. Staircases and stone platforms making no logical sense, defying reality. And the ruins of the Labyrinth. He had promised her anything. Had wanted - needed? - her to stay. She had recited the practiced words just as the clock chimed. Had she really heard what he had said? Believed it?
She reached out to touch the crystal sphere.
…And I have done it all for you.
It shattered. A dusting of snow that fell upward and vanished before touching her skin. She felt his gaze upon her one last time. She looked out the window. At the endless stars. They seemed especially bright tonight.
I move the stars for no one…except…her?
Was he telling the truth?
Really short, I know. But who says only the best stories have to be extremely long. I had fun writing this and I hope you enjoyed reading this, so please leave a review. Pretty please?
