It was the most important day of his life, the day of the wedding, her wedding, Hermione's wedding to the love of her life. Ron knew that today had to be perfect, no reporters, no annoying extended family, only the most important people in her life were to be in front of her today. It had been planned out in her mind since she was a little girl and as soon as she met him she knew that it would be perfect.
Ron wore his best set of dress robes as instructed by his little sister Ginny, the maid of honor, who stood a few feet away from him holding his best friend Harry's arm. They were to get married in a year as well. He quickly took a swig of fire whiskey from his flask hidden in his breast pocket. Holding back tears as he saw her round the corner on her father's arm, walking towards the only man that could make her smile as bright as she was now. The man standing at the other end of the aisle, Draco Malfoy.
Ron thought back to the night in 5th year when he and Hermione were along on the Astronomy tower, watching the stars. It was cold and a bit windy that night but it felt dangerously warm under the blanket they used to wrap around themselves. He thought it would be the perfect time to confess his feelings for her and even thought of kissing her under the light of the passing stars. Ron thought that the feelings he had for Hermione would be reciprocated since she was starting to act a little weird around him, especially when Harry was around as well. Now that Harry was back in the dorm catching up on sleep as he had been up the past few nights with dreams of Voldemort, Ron started to put his plan into action but was cut off by Hermione's own proclamation of love. Little did he know that the reason she asked him up to the tower that night was to tell him of her crush on another boy at school. She didn't give a name because of her belief that he wouldn't like her back and she didn't want to start something between her crush and her two best friends. She also knew Harry would behave more like a protective older brother than Ron as he was always more of the immature friend of the group. It wasn't until the final battle was over that she revealed her secret boyfriend to the guys and when he received their wedding invite did he know that he would never get the chance to tell her his feelings.
Ron felt a single warm tear run down his cheek as they recited their vows to each other, basking in the glow of the love they shared. As he watched them walk back down the aisle and receive the congratulations from the guests he felt town between upholding his promise to be the best friend he could be and running to her and telling her his secret. But he knew that today was not the day, and she would never be his girl. As they walked to the reception area he knew that he would support her and her choice of husband for as long as he lived.
With one last shot of fire whiskey he descended the stairs to the dance area to deliver a speech with Harry for their best friend. It would be the perfect end to her perfect wedding, and it would be the day that Ron accepted Draco's place as the love of her life.
