CHAPTER 1
Karen stood outside of Rob's house, it was late. Really late, but she needed to see him so desperately. She fumbled around for her mobile phone in her bag, to use it as an alternative to a torch and shone the light escaping her phone to the three plant pots on the floor. Lifting the smallest one up gently, Karen retrieved the spare key to Rob's house from underneath it and let herself quietly into her boyfriends house.
Today was a year since they made 'them' official, a year since the night that they finally gave into their feelings for each other, it was a special occasion, after all it was their first full year together. Usually it's the man in the relationship that forgets this occasion, but it was Karen who forgot, not Rob. They started their day with an argument, which was also a first for them.
Karen stood in the dimly lit hallway for a minute, reminiscing on Rob's bitter words from earlier.
"I want you out of my life. You're nothing to me."
She closed her eyes and sighed deeply, and then slowly began to walk up the stairs, she bit her lip as the floorboards creaked as she made her way across the landing. The last thing she wanted to do was to wake Rob if he was asleep. But he wasn't, he was sat on the edge of his bed, looking out at the night sky, why was everything going wrong again? He loved Karen, he'd never told her this, afraid that he might be coming on too strong. He was going to tell her today but after the way she spoke to him, he was in no position to even have the slightest inkling that she felt the same way.
Karen knocked quietly on the door, "Rob?" she said softly, before opening the door, and stepping into his bedroom. He looked up at the beautiful woman that this morning, was his, but now would be somebody else's girl.
"Karen? How did you get in?" He asked standing up and walking over to her as she dangled the spare keys in the air and managed a weak smile.
"Rob, I just need to tell you something, that's why I'm here." She replied quietly, avoiding his gaze, she straightened her blue blouse and continued, "I'm sorry." It took a lot for her to apologize, and when she did, she meant it.
"And I hope you find somebody who won't be such a, I don't know, selfish person. And thank you, for everything you've done for me the past year, I've really appreciated-" Before she could continue Rob interrupted her, "Karen, you're talking to me as if I'm a teacher you're about to sack." She looked up at him, finally meeting his eyes, with tears in hers, "And the problematic thing about that is.." Rob paused, and smiled slightly, "I love you."
Karen looked a little shocked as a tear rolled quickly down her cheek, "You love me?" she whispered, as Rob swept a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear and then cupped her soft cheek with his hand.
"I love you. I love every single thing about you. I love your smile, your eyes, your nose, your hair, your hands, your legs, your feet, your bum, your lips, your toes, your feet, your fingers, your arms, your laugh, your voice, the way you kiss, the way you make love, the way you cuddle, the way you cough when you've got a cold, the way you walk, the way you sleep, the way you snore, the way you shout, the way you smile, the way your eyes light up, the way you link hands with me, the way you do everything to make me happy! I love you." Rob smiled, even though he thought he wasn't going to get the response he wanted.
But he did.
"I love you too."
