Sakura's died. How are the others reacting?
Disclaimer: I do not own Cardcaptor Sakura or am or know anyone in affiliation with it. This is written just to get rid of thoughts a gather about the characters in the series. It is no way true, sponsored or made official by those who make that sort of thing happen.
Looking For The Truth
Tomoyo wasn't used to all the attention. Whilst being worthy of many a praise and adoration, she was content to let someone who really deserved it be the centre of attention while she looked over at them from the sidelines. It had been that way with Sakura. Now, Sakura was gone and she was in the spotlight, listening to people try to shove absurd words down her throat.
"She was a good person"
Evidently. They needn't say it, it's an accepted fact.
"She died too early"
How do you die early? What if God had only meant for you to live one day, but got distracted and you mistakenly had 16years and then died, would that mean you died too late?
"She will be missed"
Of course she would be! She wasn't a hermit! She was young and pretty and filled buckets of people with her energy. You'd have to be blind not to miss her somehow.
"You'll see her again someday"
Tomoyo would have to die first and 'someday' was too general and most likely, too far away.
"She's happier now"
Is that leaning to say she wasn't happy? Sakura was always happy, the happiest of souls. Just because she took her own life didn't change that. Everyone goes through moods, especially teenage girls and they make things seem more desperate then they really are.
"She really cared about you Tomoyo-san"
This statement really boiled Tomoyo's blood. Sakura hadn't just cared for her; Sakura had loved Tomoyo, though not in the way Tomoyo would have liked. The comment just made the love Tomoyo had, the friendship she and Sakura had, seem so trivial.
Tomoyo reasoned that people rarely knew what to say to someone when big events, such as a wedding or in this case, a death, occur. So they say the things they think they should, just because everyone else said the same thing. Being uncomfortable and nervous doesn't help, especially when the situation is intensified by the person not doing as they supposedly should have done. It didn't ease people when they saw that Tomoyo - Sakura's best friend and confidant - didn't cry. Everyone knows you should cry at funerals. Tomoyo just couldn't. Wouldn't. People would mistake her tears for something they weren't.
So people would say things they thought were reasonable and comforting, not realising they were painful reminders, over excessive, generic and insensitive. So Tomoyo simply nodded her head in response and let people think they had comforted her. It was better then the tears.
Tomoyo glanced over at Syaoran. She briefly went over the fact that he was a major part in Sakura's death, through no one knew the details yet. He looked grey, uncomfortable, suffering. Tomoyo smiled. She wasn't the only who had loved Sakura and just to see him the way he was comforted her. The real test of love is death. Tomoyo wondered where she had learnt that line. Eriol maybe?
Eriol was around Tomoyo knew. Of course, as ever he was invisible. Him being there was enough.
Tomoyo wondered briefly how long it would be till there was a new Cardcaptor. If she would be as loved as Sakura, yet share a dark secret.
Of course, no Cardcaptor would look as cute as Sakura. They certainly wouldn't be wearing a 'Tomoyo Original'.
Well, tell me if you think there should be another chapter! R&R!
