Kanthia doesn't own Avatar. If she did, then Sokka would end up
ruling the world. Just because.
Pairing:
Gaangshipping. Aww, not really…Kanthia wishes.
Kanthia notes:
Kanthia is quite new to the series. She's watched the first season
and half of the second in a ridiculously small span of time, so
forgive her for errors but let her know.
Shoutout to the Avatar Sue Report, whose witty banter winz at intarwebs.
Takes place after Episode 205 – Avatar Day.
"So," said Roku as he poured a small cup of tea, "What did you think?"
Kyoshi sat with the stoic air only a born Earthbender can master. Her visit to the world of mortals had winded her- it had been too long, but there were certain things that hit home more than others.
"He's too young," she said, taking the wooden cup and pressing it to her lips, "When I was his age I had barely mastered Earthbending, let alone any of the other elements."
"So you say." His mouth tried to turn up at the edges. Around them, the swirling clouds listened with a forceful intent. "I agree. There is calmness in his eyes, but it is forced upon him."
"I peered into his mind while pleading for our innocence."
"Oh?"
She did not smile. None of them could. "It is like you said. He is…afraid, Roku. I would not wish his fate on anyone." She swallowed a gentle mouthful of the sweet liquid and tried to remember why she wasted her time drinking when she was all ready dead. "He is afraid, and he regrets. He lost his childhood in a throne of ice. He lives out his days under the looming threat of a heavenly body. Roku, if only we could give him something back-"
"If he's afraid, he does a good job of hiding it. Kyoshi, there is something important about being a child that young Avatar Aang can use to his advantage."
She hardly knew; it had been four hundred years since she had been that young. "Trust, Roku, is too easily broken. I saw it when I entered his consciousness. The moment the children from the Southern Water Tribe betray him, he will break- they're too young to know any better."
"Those children understand more than you think. Unlike their grown counterparts they remain together; difficulty brings them closer instead of driving them apart."
"One should hope. Your nation has placed us in a precarious position, Roku. In four hundred years, Airbenders may be the thing of legends past. Avatars have never been known for siring children."
"Ah. You blame me for the faults of my nation- but I do believe, Kyoshi, that he will figure something out. Children are known for their ingenuity."
"Perhaps." She drank deeply and set down the empty cup. "If anything, everything about Avatar Aang is different- special. We should keep a close eye on him."
"Indeed." He carefully bent a cloud asunder. In the cold nothing of space, Sozen's comet paused and an aching sob filled the void. "Perhaps he will be the first Avatar to not die alone."
