False Façade

Nobody else was in the park save the boy standing under the light of a lamp. You could easily see the look of melancholy with his hair back in a braid and the light shining on it as he looked up to the star filled night. He moved his left arm to hold his right, the one made of metal. As he held his automail he let a sigh escape him and let his head fall forward with his eyes closed as grief and uncertainty filled his entire being.

He was tired, so tired of running around looking for something that seems to just be getting further and further out of reach. Sure he acted like he was positive that he would succeed in getting the Philosopher's Stone, that he can restore his brother to his body, and that he would get his real leg and arm back, but at times he just wants to stop believing that. Though he would never let his younger brother see him so unsure, he was the oldest at he was suppose to take care of him and if that meant acting tough and confident then he could easily pull that off. At times however he let that front drop and let the wounds on his soul breath the reality of the situation. He was a dog of the military, using the military just as much as it was using him and he could care less as long as he could protect his younger brother.

If only he could go back in time and protect his brother from himself, if only he could have changed what had happen all those years ago, but he could not. It was his entire fault, his selfishness that couldn't let his mother go. If only he had listened to his brother instead of insisting that they could bring their mother back and live just like they had before. He didn't think about what his brother wanted or even how his mother would feel being brought back from the grave, all he cared about was having his mother back and things going back to the way things had once been.

Because of this selfishness his brother lost his body and he lost his leg and then his arm. Maybe it was a good thing he lost his arm to bind his little brother to a cold, hard suit of armor or maybe it was another act of selfishness. He didn't want to be alone, he was afraid of it and so he sacrificed his arm to attach his brother's soul to the armor. Sure his brother acts like nothing is wrong, but he was unable to enjoy the simple pleasure that he took for granted. Now he could care less if he ever got his arm and leg back, he just wanted to restore his little brother to his body and let him enjoy all the sensations and activities that he is missing out on.

With another sigh the boy once more looked up at the sky and asked for forgiveness from his mother. He had failed her, he should have protected his younger brother, but he let his selfishness rule him and he tried to bring her back. Now his last memory of his mother was of a deformed mutiny. Not only had he lost his brother his body, but he ruined his memory of his mother, and for that he could never been forgiven, and yet he still asks for forgiveness.

With a deep breath the entire air about the boy changed. He pulled himself to stand as tall as he could and let a confident expression to fill his face. He would work hard to right his brother, and maybe then he could really atone for all the selfish mistakes he had made, and if he had to sacrifice his body to fix his brother then he would.

He was Edward Elric and he would go to the ends of the earth to save his brother Alphonse Elric.
