The lab was quiet at the end of the shift. Grissom was reading in his office, Catherine had gone home to Lindsey, Warrick was with them, Greg was styling his hair and Nick and Sara were still arguing over the results of their latest case.
"Dude!" Sara said loudly. "The evidence must have been tampered with!"
"Are you accusing me?!" Nick shouted.
They only argued because they loved one another. It was friendly arguing. Like foreplay.
Grissom poked his head out, pushing his glasses up his nose. "Hey you two, cut it out. Some of us are trying to get some work done!"
Nick and Sara looked chastised and mumbled some apologies. Grissom's head disappeared again and the door slammed shut. Sara giggled and Nick couldn't help but laugh too.
"Think he knows about us?"
"For sure," Sara replied. "He's probably jealous too."
"Jealous about what?" Nick asked.
"Jealous that I got you instead of him. Haven't you seen how he looks at you?"
Nick looked shocked. "No way. Not Grissom!"
"I heard him," Sara said. "He was too afraid to pursue a relationship with you. He admitted it after that case with the woman who had been murdered in her bathroom."
"The butterfly one?"
"Debbie Marlin." Sara said, nodding her head. "I was standing outside the interrogation room and Grissom was so upset."
"Wow," Nick said. "That's some wild shit."
"Yeah." Sara agreed. They both glanced at Grissom's door which remained shut.
"Come on," Nick said. "Let's get out of here." He was feeling a bit creeped out by Sara's revelation.
They headed out of the lab together and got into Sara's Denali. Together they drove to the apartment they shared.
