Title: Confession . . . of a sort
Summary: Mikan finally confesses. Natsume doesn't understand. Just a thought that popped up in math class. Can be thought of as AU.
Warnings: None really.
Pairings: Hinting of NatsumexMikan and RukaxHotaru. Second one is if you squint really, REALLY hard.
Status: One-shot. Unless something else pops up. So, it's complete.
"Hey, Natsume."
"Hm?"
"Do you like cats?"
Natsume paused in his reading and paced the book down to raise an eyebrow at the girl sitting just across the table from him. Mikan was staring at him patiently, her pencil pressing down lightly on the paper in front of her. They were in the local library, doing their homework. Ruka and Hotaru had disappeared into the back of the library, saying something about getting more information on an author. Someone that went by some weird penname. Why they needed more information when their essay on the person was already three pages long was beyond them.
Natsume and Mikan had become somewhat friends over the years. It was a big change as they had been mortal enemies since they first met each other. The only things that probably didn't change were their attitudes and also their fights. There would be at least one everyday, maybe more since they were in the same class in high school. One would think Natsume purposely angered the girl just to see her mad.
"Why do you ask?" Natsume asked, dodging the question easily. Mikan shrugged and repeated herself. The male seemed to think for a minute before shrugging and picking up his book again. "Yeah, so?"
"You're like a cat," Mikan stated, smiling at him. Natsume lowered his book again to stare at her, not understanding where she was going with this. "You like to be alone a lot, you're quiet, can easily sneak up on people and scary when you're angry."
"And what does this have to do with the question?" he asked dryly, slowly becoming irritated. Though he was mildly pleased that she found him scary when he was angry. It was doused when he realized that meant she wasn't scared of him all the time. Mikan's smile grew wider, as if happy at his inner turmoil.
"I like cats."
Natsume blinked once. Twice. Three times. And blurted out an unintelligent "Eh?" for his troubles. Too bad Mikan's attention was diverted by the reappearance of Ruka and Hotaru. He watched the three of them speak, their words not entirely registering in his mind. He knew they were talking about him though as his name had been mentioned. Then, Hotaru was dragging Mikan out of the library with their belongings, the more energetic of the two waving good-bye at the boys with a smile on her face.
"Natsume?" Said boy blinked and turned to his best friend. Ruka had a worried look on his face. "Are you okay? I had to call you at least three times." Ah, that was probably why. Natsume's gaze landed on where Mikan had been sitting just moments ago before his gaze returned back on Ruka.
"I think I was just confessed to."
HolyMistress: Yes, ANOTHER one-shot. I MIGHT make another chapter of this if I get some sort of idea that goes along with this. I request you don't beg me to write a continuation because then I won't be able to refuse and end up thinking a little too hard for a new idea.
Mizu: Liar. You already have an idea in that twisted little mind of yours, don't you?
HolyMistress: . . . . . They're not supposed to know that. Mizu, you're banned from seeing Violet for a week.
Violet: Oi. What about me?
HolyMistress: Uh, I take that back. By the way, if I get any reviews saying that is so not like Mikan, read the summary. Five. Hundred. Times. Over. It can be viewed as AU which MEANS that their personalities WILL be different. Also, they're in HIGH SCHOOL. Which means Mikan can become cunning. . . . if only by a little.
