Disclaimer: I don't own anything, sadly... (on my part.)
How did Gandalf suddenly have a lot of pocket-handkerchiefs with him when he joined the dwarves and Bilbo at the beginning of the adventure? My take on that.
Gandalf chuckled as he watched the hobbit run frantically down the hillside. Finally. He had managed to persuade Thorin with difficulty, and now his efforts were not wasted. Bilbo Baggins would indeed join the company, and the chance was greatly lessened that the quest would end in failure.
Gandalf walked around the house, making sure that no candles were lit, all windows were locked. Suddenly a thought came to him, and Gandalf packed Bilbo's much beloved pipe and a good quantity of tobacco in a small bag. He opened a few drawers, and found quite a lot of clean handkerchiefs, remembering a hobbit who long ago always had the need for a pocket-handkerchief. Gandalf guessed, correctly, that Bilbo would be the same way.
He failed to see the chandelier and his head promptly made contact with it. Hobbits and their shortness, and handkerchiefs! To a certain extent Gandalf could understand Saruman's incredulity at Gandalf's love of the hobbits. But he knew that hobbits proved indeed tougher than their soft exteriors showed. Thorin would come to realize this over the journey. Gandalf locked the door behind him and then shut the gate.
Gandalf mounted his horse and set off. Hopefully, Bilbo had arrived in time, and the dwarves would actually accept him. He chuckled at the thought of Thorin's face when he would realize that Bilbo was indeed coming along on the adventure.
PLEASE REVIEW! It's utterly wonderful to see reviews for my stories!
Apologies if I got Gandalf's characterization wrong! This is my first time writing about Gandalf, but do give me all the constructive criticism possible, I want to improve!
