Initial Reaction

She felt around herself, her eyes taking in the room. It was weird, this place. It was damp, but not very dark. And there were no windows at all.

"It's like a dungeon," she mused. "But different." Only several kerosene lamps lighted the place, but it felt as if a large but old electrical illuminated everything.

She had changed as well, she realised. Waking on the bed caused her to think more than she ever did. Before joining the police force, she hated the dark. Now the dimness of the chamber appealed to her as a sunflower would to a bee. Never had she seen the beauty of it. Until now.

But what caused the sudden change in her? The police force? But she had received an important assignment only once. Wait. The assignment! Cheddar village! The vampire priest.

Vampire!

The pin had dropped. She remembered all. She, Officer Victoria, had tried to flee from the vampire priest and her former comrades when he turned up. What was his name again? Ah, yes. The vampire Alucard.

Oh, the shivers his appearance brought her! His skin was eerily white; as white as his gloves. His eyes were dangerously red; as red as the blood that spewed from her wound. His fangs were gleaming ivory; as sharp as a carving knife. Coupled with the Devil's face, it frightened her far more than her parents' deaths did.

But this vampire—he saved her. At least, he probably did.

As Seras wondered if she would be scared away if she were to see Alucard again, the vampire himself strolled in.

However, this time, shake in fear she did not. In fact, she found him quite handsome. Though he still did look rather fearsome, he was her saviour, and she knew it.

"I see you've awoken," he spoke. His voice had hardly changed from being mysterious and deceiving.

His imposing figure no longer made the hairs on the back of her neck stand, but his voice did so.

"My, you're afraid, aren't you?" he breathed close to her ear.

Sensing her fear, he continued, "I have that effect on most." This time, he seemed proud of it; he seemed happy of the fact, judging by his soft chuckle.

"S-sir?" she whispered, barely audible. "Wh-why—" she broke off, shuddering. Once again she was terrified and apprehensive.

"You are a vampire as well," he answered smoothly without hearing her question, having read her mind. He smirked. "Didn't you know?"

She gasped. Her hand automatically flew to her face. "C-can you change me back, Sir? Back to a human?" she asked, voice rasped in dreadfulness.

"We have passed the Point of No Return, dear girl."

His smirk stayed, but looked genuinely amused. Why was he like that?

"I-I don't understand…"

"You will."

"I will."

He let out a booming laugh, releasing the spell on her. "You understand?" "Y-yes, I d-do," she stuttered.

He laughed once more, unnerving poor Seras. "My power over you grows stronger yet, dear."

And yet, after all that, she felt close to him. He was somehow fatherly to her. She herself couldn't explain the feeling, though. She could not help but inquire, "Devil or father?" "Both," he said softly while close to her face.

Then he moved from the bed, towards the door. Suddenly he stopped and resumed walking after turning to face the younger vampire's direction. Halting at the foot of the bed, he questioned, "Are you not afraid?"

"This haunted face holds no horror for me now."

He smiled. Indeed, she was his daughter.
