A/N: for once i don't have an essay to write on one of my pieces ha ha. ^^;; it's a bit of an old piece that i just found lying around in my folders, and though it's a tinge bit different than my norm, i figured i ought to upload it if only to get more roy/lalum pieces on the net. i hope you enjoy this piece! (even if it's just quickly-written nonsense ha ha)
"Roy," Lalum starts, her voice shockingly muted yet still loud enough to stir Roy from his sleep. "Do you think snails have feelings?"
Roy's eyes narrow to slits, his brow furrowing in rather justified confusion.
"What?"
"Snails. Do they have feelings? Do they fall in love and get married? Do they -"
"Lalum, it's way too early for this," Roy says, in what he thinks is a diplomatic manner, before burrowing back into the blankets in an attempt to go back to sleep.
But then her leg is thrown over his waist, and her delicate hand gripping his shoulder in a way that almost hurts before she hisses, right by his ear, "But I want to know, Roy."
Roy sighs; he loves Lalum, he really does, but it's likely 2am, he's tired, and he has an exam in the morning. Normally his girlfriend's odd strikes of... Whatever this could be described as would come across as rather endearing, but now he's simply too far gone to handle this level of deep conversation. "Isn't there anyone else you can ask?" Lalum's grip loosens due to what seems to be surprise, as if she had briefly forgotten that she had any friends besides her significant other.
"Oh, right!" she chimes, too close to his ear still before rolling to the other side of the pillow fort they've set up in Lalum's basement. "Echidna never sleeps. I'm sure she knows." Despite his increasing exhaustion, Roy finds himself listening intently to the fast-paced clicks and pings as Lalum texts her friend, and he isn't too surprised when his girlfriend mutters rather dejectedly two seconds later, "She says they don't."
The slightest chuckle falls past Roy's lips as he slightly angles himself towards her. "How does she know?"
Still sounding hurt, Lalum quietly replies, "Echidna knows everything."
"Everything?"
"Everything."
Roy thinks over that far longer than he should, but his sleep-addled brain is making everything seem like a bigger deal than it actually is. "I'm not so sure."
"But do you think they do?"
Roy blinks, confused. "Do I think who what?"
"Snails. Do you think they have feelings?"
A long, degraded sigh falls past the smile tugging at Roy's lips. "Go to sleep, Lalum."
