(Set in the 2003 universe, but Karai helped the turtles in the defeat of the Shredder and didn't end up with that other guy.)

She had just arrived in her suite in Tokyo. The fourteen hour flight would really throw a wrench into her sleep cycle, but for right now Karai wasn't sleepy. She dumped her bags in her bedroom and pulled out the folder a clan member gave her at the door.

"Better start no while I'm not tired," she told herself and sat down on the floor.

Four hours later, she was finally finished with half of the paperwork. The Clan's financial problems ran deep and, combined the trouble they'd stirred up in five countries, it was a ridiculous amount of work.

Karai was exhausted. She let her pen fall out of her hand as she comprehended just sleeping on the floor. But, she had a meeting in the morning. A shower was a must.

Karai pushed herself to her feet and stumbled into her room only to remember that she had yet to unpack. "Damn," she cursed.

It took all of ten seconds to rip open her suitcase and discover the ziplock bag full of blue envelopes. Each was marked in big black letters, "Open When..." and she felt the corners of her mouth tilt up. That sappy dork. She swore up and down that his sweetness would give her cavities.

Forgetting her exhaustion for a moment, she opened the bag and pulled out a handful of letters. There was "Open When You're Sad", "Open When You Need a Hug", and a few others. Karai scanned them until she found the one marked, "Open When You Get These."

'Karai,

Look, I know you said that it was a dumb idea to do this but I want to. I want to be able to say the things I can't because you're halfway across the world. I know we've got Skype and email, but I just wanted to have something more special. So I may have gotten Mikey to smuggle these into your bag. Please don't be mad. I made him ninja swear not to peek at your stuff.

'So you've gotten to Japan. What's it like? Is it anything like New York? Is it cold? Do they really have special sandals just for the bathroom? I want you to tell me everything when you get the chance.

'I'll keep it short. You're probably tired from the trip. Don't push yourself. You've got a whole year to set things straight so try not to rush it. Remember we'll still be here whenever you get done.

Love,

Leo'

When she finished reading, Karai felt herself grinning. Her cheeks were actually starting to hurt from it. Carefully folding the letter back, she tucked it back into the bag and placed the bag in her nightstand. It was hard not to open all the letters at once, but because she loved that idiot, Karai didn't give in. She grabbed her clothes and hit the shower, remind herself to email Leo and chastise him for being so sappy.
