"Toni!" The pink-haired teen jumped at the sound of the blondes voice, almost dropping the book in her hands.
"Betty, why are you yelling?" She whispered, getting up from the chair. "This is a library, you know." she crossed her arms.
The blonde narrowed her eyes. "Where have you been all day? I've texted you like a hundred times."
Toni leaned down to put her books and papers back into her bag, shrugging. "I was here. I'm doing some research."
"Research on what?"
"Wouldn't you like to know?"
Rolling her eyes, the blonde refocused her attention on her original question. "Toni. Why haven't you answered any of my texts?"
"Geez, Betty I lost my phone, any more questions? Or is this interrogation over?" Toni exasperated, bag hanging limply off her shoulder.
"Why are you avoiding me?" Betty asked quietly.
"I'm not avoiding you."
"Toni, you haven't even looked me in the eye once since I've been standing here."
Toni made it a point to mockingly look into her green eyes but it wasn't enough for the other girl.
"We need to talk." She pressed, looking around the library, holding her elbows.
"I'm actually going to be late to class." Toni went to side step her but Betty pushed her back gently with a raised brow.
"You haven't worried about class all day."
"Look, Betty. Unlike you, we all don't have squeaky clean records. I can't afford any strikes here, now move." She brushes past her with every intention of leaving but her wrist was suddenly grabbed from behind and she was being dragged to the back of the library.
"Are you kidding me!? Betty!" She exclaimed forgetting her earlier statement about being in a library. Though she was quickly reminded by a nearby study group they were passing.
"Shh!"
She ignored them, glaring at the bouncing blonde ponytail in front of her. "Where the hell are you taking me?"
The blonde didn't respond as they approached a door. She threw it open before pulling the girl inside with her.
Toni yanked her hand out of her grip, quickly observing their surroundings and then sighed in annoyance. "And we're in a closet. Classic Cooper, real classic."
Betty folded her arms. "Toni, we need to talk."
"I don't have anything to say."
"We kissed! How could you not have anything to say?"
Toni shook her head firmly. "What's there to say? It was a huge mistake."
A flash of hurt crossed her features. "T-toniā¦"
"God, What is it with you Betty? First you act like I'm scum on the bottom of your shoe then you want to be friends and now-" she stops. "You know what it doesn't matter. We can't talk about this ever again."
Betty threw her hands up in frustration. "Are we supposed to just pretend like it never happened?"
She swallowed thickly, nodding. "For Jugheads sake, yes."
"And what about our sakes? I know I'm not the only one seeing what's happening between us." The blonde whispered, coming towards her, causing Toni to back up with a warning glare.
"Our sakes don't matter. That's the difference between us. You northsiders think the world revolves around you and your feelings, when it doesn't. There are other people outside your perfect little bubbles."
"In case you forgot, you're a Northsider too now." She quipped.
"Yeah but I'll always be a Southsider at heart."
"Toni." She begged.
"Jones is my friend, Betty. He's a serpent. We look out for our own and I betrayed him."
"I know. I -I did too and I feel absolutely horrible about it. But-"
"No buts, Betty. This conversation is over." She said with finality before leaving the closet and a rejected Betty alone with her thoughts.
