When he thinks about him he can't help but wince at the too innocent and cheerful disposition. About how the kid seems to always bounce back up from anything with a bright smile and lame joke about the situation. Leon can't help but worry that the Keyblade had been wrong in choosing who it had to wield it through these dark times.
Not because the boy was weak or that he wasn't good enough to handle the responsibility. Though, to anyone that had heard him talk before, when he wondered why it had chosen someone like Sora they would believe he didn't think Sora was cut out for this. That wasn't the case, he knew the boy was strong but he couldn't help but feel a slight anger at the weapon for choosing someone like Sora.
The boy was too innocent and trusting of everything that he was told. The boy had not truly suffered a great loss and fall that would make him entertain the thoughts of never getting back up. Each time he goes and takes down another of the Organization, or even just taking down a Heartless or Nobody he can't help but brace for the knowledge to finally sink in that the ones he's taking down were in fact living people at one point. That the enemy is human in a way. He waits for the light to dawn behind the eyes beforeturning dark and glassywhen he figures out that he is in fact the one called Roxas, at least to those who call him that.
He can't help but worry that as the days meld into weeks and months that the hope of finding his friend would stutter like a candle in the wind and slowly burn itself out. He was afraid that the light that had kept him going all of this time would slowly die and decay into a darkness that would never let him go.
He hoped that Riku wouldn't become the darkness that would make the boy finally fall and not get back up.
He was surprised and not all that pleased at the choice of the wielder of the Keyblade.
Because he didn't want Sora to end up broken and lost when he couldn't stop the darkness from taking its toll on his heart. He couldn't bear to see another person go from being loud and bright to broken and silent. He had sat by and watched that happen once before and he was not about to let that happen again while he was there.
He couldn't stop Cloud from falling, and he couldn't really stop Sora from falling either. He could help Cloud get back up and help Sora become strong enough to try getting back up when it finally came for his time to fall.
He couldn't really save anyone and could only watch from the side. Nothing had changed since then, when their home was taken over by the heartless.
That didn't mean he wouldn't stop trying.
