"No... No. No!"
Tobias was screaming, knees on the floor, face buried in his hands.
"Tobias, I'm sorry" Christina kept saying.
He couldn't cry, he couldn't speak, he couldn't get up. He couldn't do anything!
"No, please, not her…" was all he could think.
"I'm sorry, Tris just grabbed the things and went in or me. I tried to stop her, but…" Caleb cried. He was still so shocked and perplexed with everything.
"Please…" Tobias begged to no one in particular. He knew he couldn't do anything, not just about what happen, but with everything else from that moment on. A sudden rage started growing in him, taking control of his body – it. wasn't. fair.
He started to scream again.
"Tobias. Tobias!" a voice called from above and everything started to slowly fade away. He felt a hand on his shoulder, but there wasn't anyone there.
That's when he opened his eyes.
He looked around the room, recognizing the familiar place and the objects in it. His eyes settled for the place in his bed next to him, where she was. She had a sleepy look (just like he probably had), and her golden hair was all messy and scruffy but falling around her shoulders in a way that made her so beautiful to him. There was concern filling her eyes, but her whole body was calm, she was trying to make him see that everything was alright.
"Tris…" was all he said before he pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.
"Why were you screaming?" she asked while still holding on to him.
"I had, what only can be described, as the worst nightmare ever." he paused for a few seconds, breathing slowly and still trying to shake that horrible image out of his mind "I dreamt that I had lost you… That you had gone in instead of Cal…" he stopped himself there, he knew very well she was still mourning over her brother.
"I thought about it, you know" Tris said after a while "I thought that he didn't need, nor deserved, to die. And maybe, just maybe, since I had the strength to fight (and even resist) other serums, maybe I could survive to the death serum. I know it's silly to think like this, but I wonder…
Tobias was a little bit surprised at first with that revelation, but he quickly understood why Tris had thought like that.
"I wish, you know, that no one had to die. Especially not my brother, not the only person in my family I had left."
Tobias felt her pain, and wished more than anything that he could make everything alright for her. She had lost so much. He grabbed her face with both his hands and looked her straight in the eyes.
"I understand Tris, but I assure you, you will never be alone. As long as I'm alive, and as long as you want me, I will always be next to you and love you with all my heart, and more."
Tris had tears in her eyes, but they were tears of happiness. Tobias hold her tightly once again and kissed her; softly at first, but the intensity of the kisses grew as they realized that they had nothing and no one in their way to break them apart.
Tris parted her lips, just a little, from Tobias'.
"I love you, Tobias Eathon." she said.
"I love you too, Tris Prior." Tobias replied, kissing her once again.
