The Lost
By Amy
My name is Jake.
If you're reading this, you probably know about the Yeerk invasion. But just in case you don't, here are the facts: First fact is that Earth is being invaded. Not by bug-eyed little green men. By the Yeerks. Yeerks are parasites that can take control of you. They enter your brain through your ear and then take complete control over your body and mind.
Second fact is that there are people fighting them. Me. Us. The Animorphs. Animal-morphers. The Andalites are coming to help. But they won't be here for months, years, who knows how long. I've almost given up hope that they'll come.
Third fact is that we, the Animorphs, are the only ones holding back the Yeerk invasion. I've almost given up hope that we'll succeed.
And that's not a good thing to give up hope on. Especially now. When we have a big mission ahead of us.
We were going to penetrate and destroy a new Yeerk base.
Sound simple? Think again.
The Yeerks were building a giant Kandrona in this base. We destroyed one Kandrona, they weren't taking any chances this time.
Force fields, giant Dracon Beams, an unbelievably large army of Hork-Bajir Controllers, alarm after alarm after alarm, and even Visser3 himself.
One weakness: The self-destruct command.
I had studied and restudied everything we knew about it. I even went so far as to spy on it in morph. I was the only one who knew what we had to do to destroy it. Everyone else was too busy at the time.
I was the only one who knew what had to be done.
I didn't tell the others. Why bother? It would only get them killed.
Someone had to give the command. Someone had to push the button. Someone had to die in the explosion.
Me.
