Waiting. That is all she did now a days. Waiting for dusk when she could fall asleep and escape. Escape from having to plaster on a smile and pretend she was fine. Like nothing in the world could bother her. Not even the fact that her long time boyfriend dumped her for the closest thing she ever had to a sister. People whispered about how the minute Sam saw Emily it was as though she didn't even exist. Everyone was happy at how in love Sam and Emily where; as though they were made for each other. With Sam destined to be on the council and Emily so pretty and nice it just seemed to work.
At first, everyone was sympathetic towards her, she the victim of a bad break up. However, time moved on and so did people. It was Sam this and Emily that, it wouldn't be until the middle of the gush fest did the people gushing realize that she was the ex. They would stop talking and look at anything but her. Perhaps if Sam didn't get this look of pity in his eye when he looked at her it wouldn't be so bad, but he did and hurt. It hurt when she saw the look of complete devotion, it hurt whenever saw them together. It would always hurt, because if you planned your future with a guy and knew you two were going to spend the rest of your lives together and then had that broken. Wouldn't you be hurt to? Even more so if the women he broke up with you for was your cousin, your confidant, someone who was closer to you then a sister…Talk about rubbing salt in wound.
She used to long for him; now she longes for the moment she could close her eyes and have some measure of peace. Hover the peace would always be broken by the words, "Leah! Wake up! It's time for school!"
